This study aimed at developing a cell-based encapsulation carrier for topical delivery of bioactives to the skin. The overall objectives were to evaluate affinity of the yeast-cell based carrier to bind to the skin surface following topical application and to quantify controlled release of curcumin as a model bioactive in ex-vivo skin models using a combination of imaging, modeling and analytical measurements. Both porcine skin tissue and clinically obtained human skin biopsies were studied. The results demonstrated that upon incubation with the ex-vivo skin tissues, the cell carriers rapidly

The purpose of this research was to evaluate different parameters that can influence in vitro drug release from topical dermatological drug products such as creams, gels, and ointments. In vitro release from topical dermatological drug products was carried out by using a static diffusion cell, a synthetic membrane, and an appropriate receptor medium. The receptor medium was mixed by means of a magnetic bar rotated at 400 rpm. Experiments were designed to evaluate the influence of (i) receptor media, (ii) different lots of synthetic membranes, and (iii) agitation on drug release. Release experi

Wound healing is a complex biological process involving overlapping phases of hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling, coordinated by a network of cytokines, growth factors, and cellular responses. Natural products, particularly plant oils, are increasingly being studied for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties. Specifically, this study evaluated the healing potential of almond oil through topical application in an excisional wound model induced in mice, treated once daily for 7 days. Histological, biochemical, and molecular analyses demonstrated th

Alopecia is a chronic dermatological disorder that affects patients worldwide, with a significant impact on quality of life, self-esteem, and psychological wellbeing. However, commercially available options for alopecia treatment are still limited. Considering that topical formulations have a long-term use therapeutic profile, the safety of their ingredients should be closely evaluated to avoid potentially irritant substances. Alternative active ingredients with different mechanisms of action, as well as adequate vehicles, might increase patients' adherence leading to better clinical outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Topical drug delivery systems are increasingly favored for their ability to bypass first-pass metabolism and minimize systemic adverse effects. Emulgels, which combine the therapeutic benefits of emulsions and gels, offer a stable and effective platform for the delivery of both lipophilic and hydrophilic antimicrobial agents. The present study was designed to develop and optimize a versatile dual-route emulgel platform, featuring distinct formulations tailored for topical cutaneous delivery (incorporating salicylic acid for keratolytic and anti-acne applications) and topical ophtha

BACKGROUND: Health care service quality is inherently multidimensional; yet, the dominant practice in applied text analysis assigns each patient review to a single topic via Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). This simplification may systematically compress evaluative information when patients discuss multiple service dimensions with varying sentiments within the same review.
OBJECTIVE: This study compared the dominant-topic operationalization commonly used in applied LDA research with Generative Pretrained Transformer (GPT)-based aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) to examine (1) the exten

Skin disorders are the fourth most common cause of all diseases, which affect nearly one-third of the world's population. Topical drug delivery can be effective in treating a range of skin disorders, including microbial infections, skin cancer, dermatitis, burn injury, wounds, and psoriasis. Bioadhesive nanoparticles (BNPs) can serve as an efficient topical drug delivery system as they can serve dual purposes as bioadhesives and nanocarriers, which can mediate targeted drug delivery, prolong retention time, and deepen drug penetration through skin layers. There is an increasing demand for BNP-
