Serum amyloid A protein (SAA) was isolated from mink and human serum by ultra-centrifugation and gel filtration and characterized by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and Western blotting followed by autoradiography. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed using microtiter plates for the immunodiagnosis of fascioliasis in rats and rabbits using extracts of adult worms partially purified by gel filtration chromatography using Sephacryl S-200. A simple and rapid high-performance liquid chromatographic procedure is described for the determination of strychnine. Grain baits containing strychnine alkaloid are ground, mixed, and extracted by shaking with chloroform. Without further cleanup, extract filtrates are injected directly into a liquid chromatograph.
