Spinal cord stimulation therapy for gait impairment in Parkinson's disease: a double-blinded, randomised feasibility trial with an open extension.

A trial of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) was performed in people with gait-impaired Parkinson's (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT05110053 ). Fourteen patients underwent gait assessments and [18F]-FDG and [18F]-FEOBV PET at baseline, six, and twelve months after SCS. Twelve participants were randomised to six-month MicroBurst or sham, followed by six-month extension with stimulation. The primary outcomes were feasibility and safety, as captured by the trial process measures and nature and frequency of adverse events, respectively, and the Postural Instability and Gait Disorder (PIGD) score as a clinical

In mantle cell lymphoma, whether 18 F-FDG PET/CT or flow cytometry provide superior diagnostic performance compared to biopsy in the determination of bone marrow involvement and enhance prognostic predictive value.

To investigate whether 18 F-FDG Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) and Flow Cytometry (FCM) can serve as alternatives to bone marrow biopsy (BMB) in diagnosing bone marrow involvement (BMI), prognostic prediction, and clinical application of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). This retrospective analysis was conducted to assess the impact of PET/CT, FCM, and BMB results on BMI in 122 patients diagnosed with MCL who underwent PET/CT and bone marrow examinations, and 97 patients with complete survival data were included in the survival analysis. Taking BMB positive as the standard

Non-invasive identification of brain signatures of acute liver injury.

Background: In many disorders, metabolic and inflammatory derangements that originate in peripheral organs have a deleterious impact on the brain. Brain functional impairment, defined as hepatic encephalopathy, is one of the main diagnostic criteria for acute liver failure (ALF), a severe complication of acute liver injury (ALI). While brain inflammation (neuroinflammation) and metabolic alterations significantly contribute to hepatic encephalopathy, their non-invasive evaluation remains challenging. Methods: To address this limitation, we utilized dual radiotracer [18F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-2-D-glu

Exploratory effects of coffee-derived exosome-like nanoparticles in a fibrillar amyloid-beta 1-42-induced neurodegenerative rat model: evidence from fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography and phosphorylated tau/amyloid precursor protein expression.

Enterovirus 71 (EV71) is now recognized as an emerging neurotropic virus in Asia and with Coxsackie virus (CV) it is the other major causative agent of hand-foot-mouth diseases (HFMD). Effective medications and/or prophylactic vaccines against HFMD are urgently needed. From a scientific (the feasibility of bioprocess, immunological responses and potency in animal challenge model) and business development (cost of goods) points of view, we in this review address and discuss the pros and cons of different EV71 vaccine candidates that have been produced and evaluated in animal models. Non-invasive assessment of PD-L1 status and histology in non-small cell lung cancer using 18F-FDG PET/CT radiomics.

BACKGROUND: Radiomics analysis of 18F-FDG PET/CT enables extraction of high-dimensional quantitative features that may serve as imaging biomarkers for tumor biology. In particular, in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), such features could potentially predict immune checkpoint biomarker status, such as PD-L1 expression, and histological subtype without the need for invasive tissue sampling. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed pre-treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT scans of 115 patients with histologically confirmed NSCLC (adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma) and known PD-L1 status. Radiomic featu

Reassessing Bone Marrow Aspirate and Trephine Biopsies in Staging for Paediatric and Young Adult Patients With Ewing Sarcoma and Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Ewing sarcoma (ES) and rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) are aggressive malignancies in children and adolescents where metastases impact prognosis. 18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) and bone marrow aspirate and trephine biopsies (BMAT) are used to identify disease involvement. Literature suggests that BMAT may not be required for staging when FDG-PET/CT is performed in ES. However, BMAT continues to be performed. This retrospective audit re-reviewed staging practices in the ES cohort to confirm the applicability of existing evidence and extended th

SUVmax-IPI as a New Prognostic Index in Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients Receiving Nivolumab.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Nivolumab has significantly improved outcomes in patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, reliable prognostic biomarkers remain an unmet need. To address this gap, we developed the SUVmax-IPI, a novel prognostic index combining maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) from 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) with systemic inflammatory markers. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of SUVmax-IPI in patients with NSCLC receiving nivolumab therapy. METHODS: This multicenter retrospective analysis included

Clinical impact of [18F]FDG-PET/CT in ARI0002h treatment, a CAR-T against BCMA for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.

Multiple myeloma (MM) remains incurable, with poor outcomes in heavily pretreated patients. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has emerged as a promising treatment; however, outcomes after such therapy in patients with soft-tissue plasmacytomas and other bone lesions remain poorly understood. This study included 63 patients with relapsed/refractory MM treated either in the CARTBCMA-HCB-01 clinical trial (ARI0002h; academic B-cell maturation antigen [BCMA]-targeted CAR T-cell therapy) or in compassionate use. The aim was to evaluate the impact of soft-tissue involvement (extramedull

Evaluation of sustainable diagnostic approaches in metastatic breast cancer (MBC).

INTRODUCTION: Assessing bone metastases in metastatic breast cancer is challenging. Due to rising concerns over energy use and emissions, energy-efficient imaging is essential. This study aimed to compare three diagnostic imaging approaches used in therapy monitoring of MBC patients, evaluating both their environmental impact-quantified by energy consumption and related greenhouse gas emissions-and their biological cost, defined as patient exposure to ionizing radiation and contrast media volume. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed 70 patients with bone-dominant metastatic breast cancer who
