Simple, effective, and eco-friendly sugar-based phase-selective gelators were synthesized at a low cost. They showed high gelling ability toward a wide range of solvents at lower concentrations (minimum gelation concentration ∼0.3%). In this paper, we report a nonphytotoxic bactericide and fungicide formulation containing a composite of silica and quaternary ammonium compound (quat). The composite material was prepared using an acid-catalyzed sol-gel method. Positively charged quat was associated with a negatively charged silica-gel matrix, producing a stable suspension of fixed-quat gel (FQ-G). We have compared the effects of progressive (30% and 60%) in vitro haemodilution with hydroxyethyl starch (HES), gelatin (GEL) and albumin (ALB) with haemodilution using 0.9% saline in 96 patients by thrombelastography.
