Daily state distress tolerance and alcohol use motivation among individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms who endorse hazardous alcohol use.

OBJECTIVE: Hazardous drinking and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are both highly prevalent and frequently comorbid conditions that result in more severe outcomes than either individual condition. It is therefore a priority to identify malleable treatment mechanisms that may underlie the hazardous drinking-PTSD comorbidity to inform evidence-based intervention efforts. Distress tolerance (DT), or the perceived ability to withstand negative affect states, is theoretically relevant to both hazardous drinking and PTSD symptoms. DT is relatively stable, but recent work indicates that it also

An Examination of Buprenorphine and Norbuprenorphine Concentrations in Inpatients Receiving Medications for Opioid Use Disorder.

BACKGROUND: Interpretation of urine buprenorphine and norbuprenorphine concentrations is widely used to assess adherence during treatment for opioid use disorder. However, the relationships between dose, timing of sample collection, and metabolite ratios remain unclear, leading to potential misinterpretation in clinical practice. METHODS: Data were collected from patients on a psychiatry unit who were either inducted on or continued buprenorphine therapy and underwent urine testing for buprenorphine and its metabolite, norbuprenorphine. Urine samples were collected 16 to 786 min after the las

Correspondence-free local-to-global liver deformation correction via implicit neural representation and biomechanical model.

PURPOSE: In image-guided laparoscopic liver surgery, correcting organ deformation using intraoperative point clouds is crucial for mapping preoperative anatomical information to the intraoperative scene, such as tumors and blood vessels. Optimization-based methods, especially finite-element-model (FEM) based methods avoid non-physical deformations and thus achieve higher accuracy, but they rely on iterative correspondence search. This process not only demands substantial computational resources but also may make the methods vulnerable to noisy and occluded intraoperative point clouds. METHODS

Neurodegeneration and Homelessness: A Bidirectional Relationship Shaping Health and Vulnerability.

Neurodegeneration and homelessness are deeply interconnected. Many structural, environmental, and interpersonal conditions experienced during homelessness-for example, inconsistent healthcare, forced displacement, chronic stress, and trauma-can contribute to accelerated cognitive decline through multiple pathways. Related neurocognitive impairment can also increase vulnerability to homelessness. Deficits in memory, executive functioning, attention, and impulse control can make it difficult to maintain employment, manage finances, navigate social services, and sustain supportive relationships.

Geographical characteristics and other factors associated with alcohol-related fatal fires in Ireland 2014 - 2021.

INTRODUCTION: Alcohol-related fatal fires represent a tragic but preventable death. Geographic features of these events can inform prevention campaigns and are important to consider in combination with other risk factors. This study aims to examine the factors associated with alcohol-related versus non-alcohol-related fatal fires, and to examine geographical characteristics of alcohol-related fatal fires in Ireland. METHOD: Using Irish Coronial data, we looked at all 273 fire fatalities for the period 2014 to 2021, of which 112 (41.0%) had positive alcohol toxicology. Descriptive analyses wer

The Czech Bill on palliative care, end-of-life decision-making, and euthanasia in light of Belgian legislative experience.

In 2024, a Bill "On Palliative Care, End-of-Life Decision-Making and Euthanasia" was submitted to the Czech Parliament for consideration. This article evaluates the Bill through doctrinal and ethico-legal analysis and a comparative perspective centred on Belgium, whose model influenced the Czech proposal. The Bill is unusual in combining, within one statute, conventional end-of-life practices - palliative care, withholding or withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment, and palliative sedation - and "assisted death", covering euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide. With regard to conventional p

Animal-assisted interventions for depression in older adults: an umbrella review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis.

BACKGROUND: Depression affects up to 30% of older adults and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Animal-assisted interventions (AAIs) - usually known as "pet therapy" - have emerged as promising complementary approaches, yet evidence synthesis remains fragmented. OBJECTIVE: To comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of AAI in reducing depressive symptoms among older adults through an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses, incorporating trial sequential analysis. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library through September 2

Projection Kernel regularization for diffusion-based multimodal remote sensing segmentation.

With the increasing availability of multimodal remote sensing (RS) data, semantic segmentation that leverages complementary information from true orthophotos (TOP) and digital surface models (DSM) has become essential for urban analysis. Diffusion-based segmentation provides an effective iterative refinement mechanism for modeling complex multimodal distributions; however, conventional pixel-wise supervision emphasizes local accuracy while overlooking global distribution alignment, often leading to inconsistent predictions and blurred object boundaries. Although maximum mean discrepancy (MMD)

Development of a Novel Convolution to Interactive Capture and Recalibration Enhancement Module for Underwater Fish Detection in Sensor Networks.

Underwater optical sensor networks are essential for fish monitoring, yet imagery is often affected by illumination variability, low contrast, and complex backgrounds. Attention mechanisms are vital for feature representation in deep networks, yet existing approaches often struggle with spatial information loss and limited multi-scale interaction under such challenging conditions. This paper introduces Convolution to Interactive Capture and Recalibration Enhancement (C2ICARE), a lightweight attention module designed to overcome these challenges. The principal contribution of C2ICARE is the ada

6D Building information modelling (BIM) for demolition waste management of semi-submersible wind turbines.

The rapid global expansion of offshore wind is matched by an emerging wave of decommissioning. By the 2030s, over 30 GW of Europe's capacity will reach end-of-life (EoL), rising to 40 million tonnes of material waste globally by 2050, with blades alone contributing approximately 325,000 tonnes of waste per year in Europe if not effectively recovered. This shift presents a risk of waste accumulation and an opportunity to embed circular economy (CE) practices into infrastructure renewal. To address this challenge, this study develops a BIM-based framework for dismantling a semi-submersible float

Condition-dependent success of resource-based reproductive tactics across both sexes in Drosophila prolongata.

UNLABELLED: Because reproductive tactics vary in their energetic and fitness costs, individuals may increase their reproductive success by aligning their tactics with their physical condition. In resource-based mating systems, monopolizing valuable patches is energetically costly, yet potentially highly rewarding for males. In females, mating near resources may reduce the cost of mate search and assessment. However, the balance of costs and benefits associated with a given tactic may shift with an individual's condition. Here we studied this in the fruit fly Drosophila prolongata. In arenas co

In Vitro-In Vivo Correlation (IVIVC) in Transdermal Drug Delivery Systems: Models, Regulatory Perspectives and Translational Challenges.

Transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS) represent a clinically established yet mechanistically complex platform for systemic drug administration, offering advantages such as avoidance of hepatic first-pass metabolism, sustained drug input and improved patient adherence. However, their development and regulatory evaluation remain challenging due to the physiological variability of the skin barrier, site-dependent absorption and formulation-skin interactions. In vitro-in vivo correlation (IVIVC) has therefore emerged as a critical translational framework for linking in vitro permeation characte

Molecular and Genetic Biomarkers in Prostate Cancer Active Surveillance: Recent Developments and Future Perspectives.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Active surveillance (AS) has become the standard of care for many men with localised prostate cancer, aiming to avoid the overtreatment of indolent disease while maintaining oncological safety. Despite improvements in diagnostic techniques, misclassification at diagnosis and the limited ability to predict disease progression remain major challenges in AS. Novel molecular and genetic biomarkers, assessed through liquid biopsy approaches, offer the potential to refine patient selection and support risk-adapted monitoring in AS. METHODS: We conducted a narrative review of

Weight discrimination and disordered eating behaviors among young adults with high weight status.

Weight discrimination is a pervasive public health issue for people in high weight bodies, with well-established links to health, including the use of disordered eating behaviors. The current study extends the extant literature by focusing exclusively on the study of associations between weight discrimination and disordered eating behaviors among high weight young adults, as well as by determining if associations exist independent of body mass index. Centering this population allows us to inform interventions that avoid reinforcing weight-centric, pathologizing narratives. We utilized data fro

Can Intraoperative Anesthesiological Management Reduce the Risk of Acute Kidney Injury After Liver Transplantation? A Systematic Review.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent and severe complication after liver transplantation (LT), occurring in 30-60% of cases. It increases mortality, prolongs hospital stay, and increases the risk of chronic kidney disease. Intraoperative, modifiable anesthetic factors play a key preventive role. This systematic review synthesizes the overall prevalence of AKI and examines the evidence linking intraoperative anesthetic management to AKI after LT, emphasizing modifiable factors that may inform future perioperative strategies. Methods: We conducted a systematic, computerized search
