BACKGROUND: Operative mortality after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation is heavily influenced by patient selection and the technical difficulty of surgery. However, how we treat our patients and LVAD setting may affect the patient outcome beyond this period. We postulated that the presence of echocardiographic variables 1 month after surgery suggesting appropriate degree of LV unloading and an adequate forward flow would be important in determining clinical outcomes after the initial successful LVAD implantation.

OBJECTIVE: Hydrocephalus is an important etiological factor in neurological decline. With the advent of fetal ultrasound, fetal hydrocephalus is now more frequently detected than in the past. Ultrasonography (USG) provides information on general morphology, but microstructural changes that may play a prognostic role are beyond the resolution of that technique. Background Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a leading cause of heart failure (HF). We retrospectively analyzed long-term survival in DCM and the impact of clinical factors on their prognosis. Methods This was a retrospective analysis of 622 DCM patients (484 men, 138 women). Survival was compared between the 2016-2019 and 2020-2023 cohorts.
