The Brainbox-a tool to facilitate correlation of brain magnetic resonance imaging features to histopathology.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has limitations in identifying underlying tissue pathology, which is relevant for neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, stroke or brain tumours. However, there are no standardized methods for correlating MRI features with histopathology. Thus, here we aimed to develop and validate a tool that can facilitate the correlation of brain MRI features to corresponding histopathology. For this, we designed the Brainbox, a waterproof and MRI-compatible 3D printed container with an integrated 3D coordinate system. We used the Brainbox to acquire post-mortem e

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in early central retinal artery occlusion.

INTRODUCTION: Restricted retinal diffusion (RDR) has recently been recognized as a frequent finding on standard diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO). However, data on early DWI signal evolution are missing. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Consecutive CRAO patients with DWI performed within 24 h after onset of visual impairment were included in a bicentric, retrospective cross-sectional study. Two blinded neuroradiologists assessed randomized DWI scans for the presence of retinal ischemia. RDR detection rates, false positive ratings, and interrater agreement were e

Incidence of Underlying Abnormal Findings on Routine Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Bell Palsy.

IMPORTANCE: There is no consensus on the benefits of routine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the facial nerve in patients with suspected idiopathic peripheral facial palsy (PFP) (ie, Bell palsy [BP]). OBJECTIVES: To estimate the proportion of adult patients in whom MRI led to correction of an initial clinical diagnosis of BP; to determine the proportion of patients with confirmed BP who had MRI evidence of facial nerve neuritis without secondary lesions; and to identify factors associated with secondary (nonidiopathic) PFP at initial presentation and 1 month later. Immune-Mediated Hypertrophic Pachymeningitis and its Mimickers: Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings.

Hypertrophic pachymeningitis (HP) is a rare and chronic inflammatory disorder presenting as localized or diffuse thickening of the dura mater. It can be idiopathic or an unusual manifestation of immune-mediated, infectious, and neoplastic conditions. Although some cases may remain asymptomatic, HP can lead to progressive headaches, cranial nerve palsies, hydrocephalus, and other neurological complications, which makes its recognition a fundamental step for prompt treatment. Regarding the diagnosis workup, enhanced MRI is the most useful imaging method to evaluate dural thickening. This article

Real-time cardiovascular magnetic resonance-guided radiofrequency ablation: A comprehensive review.

Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging could enable major advantages when guiding in real-time cardiac electrophysiology procedures offering high-resolution anatomy, arrhythmia substrate, and ablation lesion visualization in the absence of ionizing radiation. Over the last decade, technologies and platforms for performing electrophysiology procedures in a CMR environment have been developed. However, performing procedures outside the conventional fluoroscopic laboratory posed technical, practical and safety concerns. The development of magnetic resonance imaging compatible ablation systems,

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging findings of isolated left ventricular apical hypoplasia.

UNLABELLED: Isolated left ventricular apical hypoplasia (ILVAH) is an uncommon and likely congenital cardiac abnormality that has been described as relatively new. ILVAH is characterized by a truncated, globular-shaped left ventricle (LV) with bulging of the interventricular septum toward the right ventricle (RV), wrapping of an elongated and lengthened RV around the absent LV apex, thinning and fat replacement of apical myocardium of the LV, and abnormalities in the papillary muscle arrangement of the LV. In this report, we present the cardiac magnetic resonance imaging findings of a 22-year-

[Progress in neural network mechanism of tinnitus using functional magnetic resonance imaging].

Tinnitus refers to the perception of abnormal sound in the absence of external sound stimulation. It can have an impact on a person's mood, memory, attention, and mental state, although the mechanism of tinnitus is still unclear. In recent years, the research on the central neural mechanism of tinnitus has attracted the attention of scholars.Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI),as an effective imaging technology, has been actively employed in this field. This paper provides a systematic summary of studies on the central neural mechanism of tinnitus by fMRI in recent years, revealed the

Measuring Strain in Diffusion-Weighted Data Using Tagged Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Accurate strain measurement in a deforming organ has been essential in motion analysis using medical images. In recent years, internal tissue's in vivo motion and strain computation has been mostly achieved through dynamic magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. However, such data lack information on tissue's intrinsic fiber directions, preventing computed strain tensors from being projected onto a direction of interest. Although diffusion-weighted MR imaging excels at providing fiber tractography, it yields static images unmatched with dynamic MR data. This work reports an algorithm workflow that es

Domain adaptation of automated treatment planning from computed tomography to magnetic resonance.

Objective.Machine learning (ML) based radiation treatment planning addresses the iterative and time-consuming nature of conventional inverse planning. Given the rising importance of magnetic resonance (MR) only treatment planning workflows, we sought to determine if an ML based treatment planning model, trained on computed tomography (CT) imaging, could be applied to MR through domain adaptation.Methods.In this study, MR and CT imaging was collected from 55 prostate cancer patients treated on an MR linear accelerator. ML based plans were generated for each patient on both CT and MR imaging usi

Efficient Tuning of the Spin-Orbit Torque via the Magnetic Phase Transition of FeRh.

The understanding and control of the spin-orbit torque (SOT) are central to antiferromagnetic spintronics. Despite the fact that a giant SOT efficiency has been achieved in numerous materials, its efficient tuning in a given material has not been established. Materials with magnetic phase transitions (MPTs) offer a new perspective, as the SOT efficiency may vary significantly for the different magnetic orderings across the transition, and the transition itself can be readily tuned by various control parameters. This work reports that the SOT efficiency of a FeRh-based perpendicular magnetized

Correlation of Magnetism and Disordered Shiba Bands in Fe Monolayer Islands on Nb(110).

Two-dimensional (2D) magnet-superconductor hybrid systems are intensively studied due to their potential for the realization of 2D topological superconductors with Majorana edge modes. It is theoretically predicted that this quantum state is ubiquitous in spin-orbit-coupled ferromagnetic or skyrmionic 2D spin-lattices in proximity to an s-wave superconductor. However, recent examples suggest that the requirements for topological superconductivity are complicated by the multiorbital nature of the magnetic components and disorder effects. Here, we investigate Fe monolayer islands grown on a surf

Real-Time Implementation of the Prescribed Performance Tracking Control for Magnetic Levitation Systems.

For magnetic levitation systems subject to dynamical uncertainty and exterior perturbations, we implement a real-time Prescribed Performance Control (PPC). A modified function of Global Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Manifold (GFTSMM) based on the transformed error of the novel PPC is introduced; hence, the error variable quickly converges to the equilibrium point with the prescribed performance, which means that maximum overshoot and steady-state of the controlled errors will be in a knowledge-defined boundary. To enhance the performance of Global Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control (GFTSMC) and t

Insights from auditory cortex for GABA+ magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies of aging.

Changes in levels of the inhibitory neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) may underlie aging-related changes in brain function. GABA and co-edited macromolecules (GABA+) can be measured with MEGA-PRESS magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). The current study investigated how changes in the aging brain impact the interpretation of GABA+ measures in bilateral auditory cortices of healthy young and older adults. Structural changes during aging appeared as decreasing proportion of grey matter in the MRS volume of interest and corresponding increase in cerebrospinal fluid. GABA+ referenced to

A Practical Workflow for Magnetic Resonance-Guided Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy to the Pancreas.

The increased adoption of stereotactic body radiation therapy has allowed for delivery of higher doses, potentially associated with better outcomes but at the risk of higher toxicity. The intimate association of radiosensitive organs at risk (eg, stomach, duodenum, bowel) has historically limited the delivery of ablative doses to the pancreas. The advent of magnetic resonance-guided radiation therapy with improved soft-tissue contrast allows for gated delivery without an internal target volume and online adaptive replanning to maximize the therapeutic ratio. Patient selection requires addition
