The effect of local treatment of nostrils with fusidic acid cream was investigated in 30 previously untreated lepromatous leprosy patients. The cream was applied in the nostrils after flushing the nostrils with normal saline, twice a day for a period of four weeks. It was found that 20 mg/gm of sodium fusidate was effective in reducing the morphological index of the nose-blow smear to zero in two weeks in majority of the patients. No untoward side effect was seen in any of the patients. Such nasal treatment along with multidrug therapy may help in reducing the patient's level of infectiousness

Dexamethasone induces a relative cardiomegaly in neonatal rats. Biochemical analyses, performed on hearts at seven days postpartum, disclosed that dexamethasone increased protein content without significantly altering DNA or RNA content. We report four pregnancies in four patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET). In two cases pregnancy resulted in spontaneous abortion at 6 and 11 weeks of gestation, respectively. An eosinophil chemotactic (ECF) was partially purified from plerocercoids of Spirometra erinacei by a combination of anion-exchange chromatography on DE52 and gel filtration on Sephacryl S-200. The molecular weight of ECF was estimated to be 25,000-45,000 by high-pressure liquid chromatography. The ECF was bound with concanavalin A-Sepharose. A histologically confirmed, clinically inapparent and reversible hepatitis occurred in 2 patients (1 psoriasis, 1 basal cell nevus syndrome) within the first months after introduction of etretinate therapy. OBJECTIVE: The role of liver fatty acid-binding protein (FABP1) in obesity is presently unclear. We investigated the association of FABP1 with obesity and the changes noted after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) in a Chinese population.
METHODS: The cross-sectional analysis included 187 individuals: 65 had normal weight (18.5 ≤ body mass index (BMI) < 24 kg/m2), 59 were overweight (24 ≤ BMI < 28 kg/m2), and 63 were obese (BMI ≥ 28 kg/m2). We also assessed 25 severely obese patients (BMI, 38.58 ± 4.59 kg/m2) at baseline and at 3, 6, and 12 months after LSG to observe FABP1 levels.
