Molecular Fingerprint-Dependent Retention and Fractionation of Combustion-Derived Dissolved Organic Matter on Kaolinite and Montmorillonite.

The environmental fate of combustion-derived dissolved organic matter (CDOM) at clay mineral interfaces remains poorly understood. We applied FT-ICR-MS, XPS, and other techniques to investigate the interfacial behavior of CDOM from coal, charcoal, pinewood, and maize straw on kaolinite and montmorillonite. Two distinct mechanisms were identified: ligand exchange on kaolinite (increasing binding energies by 1.2 ∼ 1.7 eV) and Ca2+/Mg2+-mediated cation bridging on montmorillonite (decreasing binding energies by 0.3 ∼ 1.8 eV). Maize straw-CDOM and charcoal-CDOM exhibited the highest adsorption on

Ontogenetic shifts in the metabolomic profiles of Battus polydamas (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae: Troidini) Feeding on Aristolochia gigantea.

Insect development involves profound physiological reorganization that can alter the assimilation and allocation of metabolites across life stages. In herbivorous insects, these processes are tightly linked to diet-derived chemical exposure, yet how metabolic organization shifts throughout ontogeny remains poorly understood. Here, we investigated ontogenetic metabolomic variation in Battus polydamas feeding on Aristolochia gigantea, a system characterized by a specialized ecological interaction between insect and host plant. We examined how chemical profiles vary across larval, pupal, and adul

Punicalagin is the key pomegranate polyphenol inhibiting gut microbial trimethylamine (TMA) production from L-carnitine in an in vitro human colon model.

TMAO has been linked to various cardiometabolic diseases and all-cause mortality risk. A major dietary precursor of TMAO is L-carnitine. L-Carnitine is metabolised by microbiota to γ-butyrobetaine (γ-BB), followed by trimethylamine (TMA), and is then oxidised to TMAO in the liver. Previously, we have shown that a polyphenol-rich pomegranate extract dose-dependently inhibited the production of γ-BB and TMA from L-carnitine. Here, we further investigated the effects of the pomegranate extract and its individual constituents/metabolites (polyphenols, spray-drying agent gum Arabic, and urolithins)

Fermented red quinoa (FRQ) effectively mitigates chronic alcohol-induced cognitive impairment and hepatic steatosis through multi-mechanistic pathways.

Long-term alcohol consumption drives systemic damage through metabolites such as acetaldehyde, which trigger oxidative stress, inflammation, and gut dysbiosis. This study evaluated the protective effects of fermented red quinoa (FRQ) in an alcohol-exposed mouse model, with a focus on cognitive function. Male C57BL/6J mice were randomized into three groups for a 28-day study: a normal control, an alcohol-treated group gavaged with ethanol (1 mL/100 g·BW), and a group receiving the same ethanol dose co-administered with FRQ powder (human equivalent dose: 9 g/60 kg·BW). Our results demonstrated t
