Personal influencing factors associated with pap smear testing and cervical cancer.

PURPOSE: Puerto Ricans have higher lifetime and current asthma prevalence than other racial and ethnic groups in the United States. A great many Hispanics use ethnomedical therapies for asthma. This study elicited participant knowledge of ethnomedical therapies, developed a typology of the therapies, and considered whether some types are used or deemed efficacious based, in part, on information source. METHODS: Eligible participants were randomly selected from the medical records of an inner-city primary care clinic serving a predominantly Hispanic community in Buffalo, New York. Thirty adult

External assets and psychosocial adaptation in left-behind children: stress mindset as mediator and environmental sensitivity as moderator.

INTRODUCTION: The psychosocial adaptation of rural left-behind children has become a significant social concern. While previous research has mainly focused on developmental vulnerabilities from a deficit perspective, less attention has been paid to the external resources and positive individual traits that facilitate optimal development. To address this gap, grounded in the positive youth development perspective, this study constructed a moderated mediation model to examine the mediating role of stress mindset in the relationship between external assets and the psychosocial adaptation of left-

Low socioeconomic status as a major risk factor for early-onset type 2 diabetes with limited lifestyle mediation: Cross-Sectional evidence from US and South Korean populations.

This study aimed to examine the association between socioeconomic status (SES) and early- and late-onset type 2 diabetes (T2D), evaluate the mediating role of a healthy lifestyle in these associations, and further explore the contribution of various risk factors to different types of T2D. This study analyzed data from US NHANES, and Korean KNHANES, encompassing 20,655 US, and 26,575 Korean adults. SES was categorised as high, middle, or low based on income, education, employment, and insurance. A healthy lifestyle score included nonsmoking, no heavy drinking, regular physical activity, and a h

Gendered Racial Microaggressions and Black Women's Mental Health: Does Life Course Stage Matter?

Gendered racial microaggressions refer to subtle, yet psychologically injurious, interpersonal experiences rooted in racial and gender oppression. As a manifestation of gendered racism, Black women commonly report such experiences, yet this research primarily focuses on younger (e.g., college-attending) adults. Whether gendered racial microaggressions are most salient at specific life course stages (i.e., emerging versus older adulthood) remains unclear. Drawing from intersectionality, social stress, and life course perspectives, this study investigated whether life course stage (e.g., emergin

Redefining 'normal': A Canadian case study of cancer survivors' experiences remaining and/or returning to work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As cancer survival rates increase in Canada, a growing number of working-age individuals face challenges returning to work after treatment. This study examines the experiences of Canadian cancer survivors who remained in or returned to the workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were cancer survivors aged 25-62 who had been employed prior to their diagnosis. They completed a brief online survey about their return-to-work (RTW) experiences and were invited to participate in a semi-structured interview. Seven participants took part in the interviews, which were transcribed and analy

Institutionalizing family care responsibility in China's multilevel medical security system: evidence from long-term care insurance policy texts through a Confucian care ethics lens.

BACKGROUND: China's long-term care insurance reform is a key component of multilevel medical security for addressing care needs among older adults with substantial functional decline, and it also raises an ethical governance question: how family-based Confucian care responsibilities are translated into modern rules of eligibility, payment, service provision and regulation. METHODS: This study analyzed core long-term care insurance policy texts from 48 pilot cities through directed content analysis, a 45-item coding framework, policy text indices, K-means clustering and a supplementary compari

Epidemiological Profile, Spatial Dynamics, and Survival Outcomes of HIV/AIDS Patients in Brazil (2014-2024): A Nationwide Study of AIDS-stage Notification and Mortality.

Despite universal access to combined antiretroviral therapy in Brazil, substantial inequalities persist in the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This nationwide retrospective study analyzed 753,071 notifications from the Brazilian Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) between 2014 and 2024 to characterize the epidemiological profile, temporal trends, spatial distribution, factors associated with AIDS-stage notification, and predictors of AIDS-related mortality. HIV infection notifications accounted for 491,976 records, while AIDS case notifications accounted for 261,095. HIV infection notifications

Household food waste from a settlement perspective in Cape Town South Africa.

Food security, greenhouse gas emissions from the food supply chain, and waste disposal are three of the most pressing global challenges. Food waste impedes food security, environmental sustainability, and economic resilience, especially in rapidly urbanizing destitute settlements of the Global South, where structural vulnerabilities intensify the issue. This study examines the extent, nature, and drivers of household food waste in Wallacedene, a less privileged settlement on Cape Town’s periphery. Using a mixed-methods approach, we conducted 85 household surveys alongside a focus group discuss

The Ethics Committee of the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care (SIAARTI) - Artificial intelligence in end-of-life decision-making processes: ethical reflections.

Recent proposals to use artificial intelligence (AI) in end-of-life decision-making for incapacitated patients without advance directives have prompted critical reflection by the Ethics Committee of the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care (SIAARTI). This position paper analyzes both general ethical concerns surrounding AI in clinical practice and specific issues raised by the hypothesis of using AI to reconstruct patients' presumed wishes through recorded clinical conversations or analysis of digital footprints. At a general level, major challenges includ

Family Relationships as Modifiable Targets for Caregiver Quality of Life in Hospice Care: A Multicenter Study.

Family caregivers play a critical role in supporting patients with advanced cancer, yet their quality of life (QoL) is often adversely affected and remains insufficiently addressed in routine care. Although family relationships have been widely recognized as important in the caregiving context, their specific domains have rarely been examined in relation to caregiver outcomes. This study aimed to examine the associations between distinct domains of family relationships and caregiver QoL. A total of 170 caregivers were recruited from nine hospice units in Korea between September 2021 and March

Evaluation of an Online Antenatal Education Program Implemented Through a Social Network.

Prenatal education programs are a key component of maternal and newborn health promotion. Although the use of digital platforms for prenatal education increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, evidence for their effectiveness remains limited. In addition, conventional programs often omit content addressing adverse pregnancy outcomes due to concerns about increasing maternal anxiety or worry. This quasi-experimental study aimed to (1) evaluate participants' satisfaction and perceived acquisition of knowledge and health habits following a novel online prenatal education program delivered via Faceb

Resource-strengthening training for adolescents with problematic gaming (Res@t-A): Results from an exploratory single-arm pre-post-follow-up intervention study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Gaming is a popular leisure activity among adolescents. Yet, they are especially vulnerable to develop problematic gaming (PG). Those affected are often additionally impaired by deficits in attention, mood, emotion regulation, sleep quality, and social skills. Thus, effective treatment offers should address main PG symptomology and associated problems alike. However, clinical studies on multi-faceted treatments of adolescents are scarce. Therefore, the aim of this study was to preliminarily test feasibility and efficacy of the newly developed, fully manualized CBT-based pr
