BACKGROUND: Stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) is a key enzyme in fatty acid (FA) metabolism that catalyzes the addition of a cis double bond to palmitic and stearic saturated FAs, producing palmitoleic and oleic monounsaturated FAs, respectively.
