The aim of this study was to objectively assess the relationship between impaired forearm rotation and movement patterns of the upper arm and trunk in patients with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. The best-known complication of shingles (herpes zoster) is postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). PHN is commonly studied to investigate causes of and treatments for neuropathic pain. However, many patients with shingles experience neuropathic itch accompanying, or instead of, pain. A case is presented of a female newborn infant delivered with an Apgar Score of 1, who could not be resuscitated. There was a high arched palate, bell-shaped chest, contractures of writes inflexion, ankles and knees in extension, and intrauterine fractures. Clinical discussion led to a diagnosis of arthrogryposis secondary to fetal akinesia syndrome caused by nemaline myopathy. Pathology and pathologic discussion confirmed this diagnosis.

An aged female donkey developed a severe, localised, suppurative panniculitis secondary to a skin wound. Bacterial culture of swabs taken from the wound gave a profuse growth of multi-drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a profuse growth of Escherichia coli and a moderate growth of beta-haemolytic Streptococcus species. The lesion did not respond to conventional medical and surgical treatment and continued to progress. Six applications of sterile larvae (maggots) of the common greenbottle, Lucilia sericata, were used to debride the wound successfully.

We describe a 5-year-old girl with Jeune syndrome. The presenting symptoms included visual loss and night blindness only. In the neonatal period she had surgery on both hands for bilateral polydactyly. Following clinical and radiological examination a diagnosis of Jeune syndrome was proposed. Although Jeune syndrome is often characterized by multiple organ abnormalities, our patient presented with ocular symptoms at the age of 5 years.

A 5-year-old Quarter Horse mare was examined because of lethargy, fever, and weight loss of 1 month's duration. Thoracic auscultation revealed decreased lung sounds cranioventrally. We report on a 35-week gestation female fetus with Hutchinson-Gilford progeria (HGP). Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura are rare. Approximately 600 cases have been described in the literature. We report a case of a young man with a giant solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura that filled his entire left hemithorax and anterior mediastinum and extended into the right side of his chest. The diagnostic modalities employed, the operation, and the postoperative management resulting in complete resection of the tumor and full lung reexpansion are described.

We describe a 5-year-old Japanese boy who has some radiographic findings characteristic of asphyxiating thoracic dystrophy (ATD)-chondroectodermal dysplasia with a de novo chromosome abnormality. He also has mild mental retardation, short stature, hypoplastic hair and skin, oligodontia, small thoracic cage, hypoplastic pelvis and cone-shaped epiphyses of hands. On cytogenetic studies he was found to have a de novo del(12)(p11.21p12.2). These results suggest that the locus of the gene associated with ATD-chondroectodermal dysplasia may be situated at 12p11.21p12.2.
