OBJECTIVE: This manuscript explores the relationship between methamphetamine as the primary drug of choice, symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and adverse consequences of alcohol/drug use in a sample of American Indian (AI) people who self-identified as having a current substance use problem.

We assessed the types of drugs, the prevalence of HIV, syphilis, and its correlates among Shandong's drug users in China. Two consecutive cross-sectional surveys in 2009 and 2010 provided demographics, types of drugs, sexual and drug-use behaviors, and HIV-related services. This study was designed to assess differences in drug and sex-related risk behaviors between injectors of opiates only, opiate/sedative mix only and stimulants only. Participants were current out-of-treatment injection drug users (IDUs), unaware of their HIV status, recruited through street outreach in Kiev, Odessa and Makeevka/Donetsk, Ukraine. We used intrastriatal microdialysis to study the effect of pergolide, a D1/D2 dopamine (DA) receptor agonist on biotransformation of exogenous L-DOPA in hemi-Parkinsonian rats. DA and metabolites were assayed by microbore liquid chromatography. Pergolide (50 micrograms/kg, i.p.) caused a 67% and 87% decrease in striatal EC levels of DA in intact and denervated striatum respectively. In intact striatum but not in denervated striatum, pergolide decreased EC levels of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and homovanillic acid (HVA) (53% and 42% decrease, respectively).
