The recipient was a 50-year-old man with blood type O who was referred to our department for a pre-emptive ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation (KTx), with his wife as the donor whose blood was type A. We examined the influence of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) on the in vitro synthesis of rheumatoid factor (RF) by purified human B and T lymphocytes stimulated with Staphylococcus aureus Cowan 1 or pokeweed mitogen (PWM). Castleman's disease is a rare disorder caused by a polyclonal proliferation of B lymphocytes and plasma cells. Half of all cases of multicentric Castleman's disease are associated with HIV or Kaposi's Sarcoma. Typically, unicentric Castleman's disease presents as an enlarged thoracic lymph node but can present in multiple other body areas, such as the head and neck. The study is based on the examination of 12 patients with perforative duodenal ulcer and 24 patients operated on recurrent bleeding duodenal ulcer. Some component of the immune system, such as T- and B-lymphocytes rates, immunoglobulin rate and macrophagal activity, were decreased prior the beginning of the complex treatment. Normalisation of humoral and cell immunity was registered on 10-12 days after the beginning of the ozone and low-intensive laser irradiation.

The symptoms of a myopathy permanently affecting limb girdle muscles are reported in a 31-year-old woman who has been presenting an exertional muscle pain syndrome with myoglobinuria for 20 years. Investigations revealed a slightly decreased utilization of glycogen in muscle, while its storage affected only rare type 2 fibers. Active phosphorylase was undetectable and phosphorylase b kinase activity was clearly decreased in muscle cells, but normal in erythocytes, lymphocytes and cultured fibroblasts.

Lymphatic abnormalities are not generally recognized as part of the Noonan syndrome. A child with this condition in whom unique and widespread lymphatic abnormalities were demonstrated by lymphography is described. Both T and B lymphocytes were detected in chylous fluid drained from the thorax. In addition, the child was found to have a protein-losing enteropathy and cardiovascular defects. The clinical spectrum of the Noonan syndrome may include animalies of the lymphatic system.
