Kaposi Sarcoma (KS) is an intermediate neoplasm affecting the endothelial cells of mucous membranes and skin. It arises most commonly among HIV-infected individuals. We present an intra-oral KS in an 80-year-old Saudi male patient, who is HIV-seronegative, non-immunosuppressed, and with no history of organ transplantation. The patient was treated with fractionated radiation therapy, and had no recurrence in the 48 months of follow-up. The clinical disease, histologic features, and treatment modality used, as well as the relative literature are presented in this paper.

Human XPA and XRCC1 DNA repair proteins have been expressed in a series of novel yeast episomal vectors. Expression of XPA cDNA resulted in synthesis of anti-XPA crossreacting polypeptides of 40 and 42 kDa, the status of the native protein found in human cells. Likewise, the majority of the recombinant XRCC1 found in the yeast intracellular fraction corresponded to the molecular mass of the full-length human protein. Recombinant XPA protein expressed as an NH(2)-terminal polyhistidine fusion could be affinity purified using Ni(2+) agarose.

The intraperitoneal injection of Salmonella typhi into mice produced typhoid infection involving all the vital organs. Infection of liver was more persistent and progressive than in other organs. During the course of experimental infection, no humoral immune response was detected against phospholipase-A fractions upto 3 weeks after challenge, but significant cell mediated immunity (CMI) was found. Increased CMI response against protein antigens correlated well with the decreasing bacterial load, what suggested that CMI against proteins was important in pathogenesis of this disease.

Affinity labelling with aldehyde-containing analogs of initiation substrates of nuclear fraction of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) infected cells results in a labelling of a single polypeptide with a molecular mass of 68 kDa which was immunologically identified as TBEV NS3 protein. A single-hit hydroxylamine hydrolysis, using limited and long-term CNBr cleavages allowed one to identify Lys1800 and/or Lys1803 as the label attachment sites. These amino acid residues are situated in the proximity of the 'B'-site of NTP-binding motif of viral RNA replicase.

A gluten fraction (glyc-gli) induced proliferation of T lymphocytes obtained from coeliac patients or healthy controls.
