It is not known why the Angelchik prosthesis prevents gastro-oesophageal reflux. A review of 53 barium meal examinations in 39 patients with the prosthesis showed that in 43 examinations the prosthesis was below the diaphragm. In 38 of these a small knuckle of stomach had herniated through the prosthetic ring alongside the oesophagus, forming a small intra-abdominal para-oesophageal hernia. Aggressive combined resections were carried out, on 24 lung cancer cases which showed invasion into surrounding organs. Those cases with wide infiltration of the ribs, and into surrounding intercostal tissues, and for those with invasion to diaphragm, the outcome of the operations was rather poor but, for those with invasion in pericardium and left atrium, fairly favorable results were obtained. Survival of ovarian adenocarcinoma patients depends on the size of the largest residual nodule at the end of debulking surgery. The argon beam coagulator (ABC) delivers radiofrequency current traveling in a beam of argon gas which facilitates tumor destruction and hemostasis. We used the ABC as an aid to cytoreduction in seven consecutive patients with stage III/IV ovarian cancer. Ten patients received liver transplants for unresectable epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE). At the time of transplantation, four patients had microscopic metastases to the hilar lymph nodes, and one of the four also had metastases to a rib.
