Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), a key species in China's freshwater aquaculture, faces hindered industrial development due to overwintering mortality disease outbreaks. A Gram-negative bacterial strain, designated Hbh25210, was isolated from overwintering mortality-diseased grass carp in a Hubei Province farm. It was identified as Flavobacterium psychrophilum by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, showing 100% homology to reference strains in GenBank. The strain can be successfully cultured at 15 °C within 3 to 5 days. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) classified it as ST-51 (CC-ST56), while serot

Background/Objectives: Klebsiella pneumoniae is a major pathogen involved in both acute and chronic infections, characterized by high incidence and significant clinical severity. Over the past decade, resistance to traditional antimicrobial treatments has risen rapidly, highlighting the urgent need for innovative approaches. Light-based antimicrobial strategies, including antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT), offer a promising approach for addressing drug-resistant bacteria. Combining two photosensitizers (PSs) with antibiotics synergistically enhances ROS generation and multi-target bact

Taylorella asinigenitalis is a fastidious Gram-negative bacterium of the equine genital tract, found more commonly in donkeys than horses. Although considered non-pathogenic, it is closely related to Taylorella equigenitalis, the agent of contagious equine metritis, and has been linked to experimental and natural cases of endometritis. The SAFRAN project (French acronym for "Sauvegarde de la fertilité de l'âne", meaning "Preservation of donkey fertility"), launched in 2024 by the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) with support from the Centre-Val d

BACKGROUND: Ophthalmic infections, including conjunctivitis and keratitis, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae may lead to significant ocular morbidity. Rising antibiotic resistance among ocular pathogens has reduced the efficacy of conventional treatments highlighting the need for alternative antimicrobial strategies. This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial potential of bacteriocins produced by lactic acid bacteria (LAB) against antibiotic-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae isolated from clinical ophthalmic samples and to compare their efficacy with conventional antibiotics.

Intracellular infection by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a major driver of persistent osteomyelitis, leading to antibiotic failure and recurrent bone destruction. However, the precise host-pathogen interactions and mechanisms underlying bacterial internalization remain incompletely understood. In this study, we employed an in vitro intracellular infection model using bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells alongside an in vivo murine osteomyelitis model. Integrated multi-omics, structure-guided molecular docking, and mutation analyses revealed that S. aureus promotes the physical recruitment

Bloodstream infections (BSIs) caused by E. coli represent a growing global threat, driven by escalating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and sustained virulence. However, the regulatory mechanisms linking these two phenotypes remain poorly understood. Here, we identify EprX, a previously uncharacterized YjbI-type pentapeptide repeat protein (PRP), a locus that our data suggest may influence metabolic and transcriptional profiles in clinical BSI E. coli isolates. Genomic screening of 85 clinical BSI strains reveals that eprX is present in 21.2% of isolates, often within distinct genomic contexts

BACKGROUND: Surgical site infection (SSI) is a serious complication of equine orthopedic surgery. Biofilm formation by the causative bacteria contributes to treatment failure by conferring tolerance to antimicrobial agents and disinfectants; however, data on biofilm formation and antiseptic or antimicrobial exposure in equine clinical isolates are limited.
AIMS/OBJECTIVES: Our objectives were to evaluate the biofilm-forming ability of bacterial strains isolated from postoperative equine orthopedic SSI and to assess the susceptibility of established biofilms to disinfectants and antimicrobial

Community lineages of Staphylococcus aureus emerging in hospitals, such as CC398, have raised concerns. S. aureus CC398 isolates from bloodstream infections (BSI) and nasal colonization of hospitalized patients, during the COVID-19 pandemic, between March/2020 and September/2021, were characterized for antimicrobial susceptibility by disk diffusion test. Spa types and Sequence Type (ST) were analyzed by PCR/sequencing, and genes of resistance, virulence, and human immune evasion cluster (IEC) were accessed by PCR. Of a total of 118 CC398 isolates, 104 were from nasal swabs (4 MRSA and 100 MSSA

Brucellosis, one of the most important zoonoses worldwide, has been eliminated in many countries including the Czech Republic through veterinary control measures. It now occurs only as an imported disease. Owing to its non-specific clinical presentation, brucellosis is classified among the so-called "great imitators" and may overlap in the differential diagnosis with lymphoma, tuberculosis, or systemic inflammatory diseases. We present the case of a 44-year-old woman with imported chronic brucellosis who presented with prolonged fever of unknown origin, arthralgias, hepatosplenomegaly, and bul

INTRODUCTION: There are no available data from Türkiye-a country known for high antimicrobial resistance rates-regarding the etiological distribution and resistance profiles of urinary tract infections (UTIs) developing after radical cystectomy. This lack of evidence constitutes an important gap in global microbiological epidemiology. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the etiological distribution and antimicrobial resistance patterns of UTIs developing after radical cystectomy and urinary diversion.
METHODS: Patients who underwent radical cystectomy at our center between January 2006 and De

OBJECTIVE: Invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS) infections impose a huge disease burden on developing countries, and antimicrobial resistance is growing rapidly. However, systematic data on iNTS resistance remain scarce, limiting effective vaccine design and clinical strategies. This meta-analysis was performed to estimate the antibiotic resistance prevalence of iNTS and support targeted interventions and vaccine development.
METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane, CNKI, WanFang, and VIP databases were searched for eligible studies published in English between 2000 and

BACKGROUND: Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) infective endocarditis (EFIE) treatment consists of a penicillin backbone and a synergistic agent (gentamicin or ceftriaxone). Due to the instability of aminopenicillins in continuous infusion in the outpatient context, benzylpenicillin is used as an alternative to ampicillin, though concern regarding reduced synergy with ceftriaxone has emerged. Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) provides MIC breakpoints for penicillin and ampicillin. European Committee for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) guidelines only provide breakpo
