12 blood-phobic subjects, selected according to the Fear Survey Schedule and the Mutilation Questionnaire, and 50 control subjects performed a paced respiration task during which heart rate and respiration were recorded. Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) was analyzed as an autonomic index of vagal influence on the heart. To investigate developmental responses to chronic hypoxia, we incubated alligator eggs at 17% O2 and 21% O2 for the entire course of embryonic development and for 5 months post-hatching. To define the frequency, natural history and clinical correlates of the murmur of mitral regurgitation (MR) detected after myocardial infarction, clinical data from 849 patients with documented acute myocardial infarction were analyzed. A murmur suggestive of MR was present on admission in 76 patients (9%). Patients with MR on admission were older and more apt to be female and nonwhite. Studies were conducted into effects of acute and subacute CS2 application on intracardiac irritability and conduction in rat. Aconitine-induced arrhythmia and the coronary occlusion method were used as pathophysiological models. Under physiological conditions, short-time exposure to CS2 caused deceleration of intracardiac impulse conduction, while under pathophysiological conditions, modified arrhythmia or reduced survival rate was the result.

The case of a 9 year old boy with acute renal failure and myocarditis as complications of mumps is reported. The cardiac rhythm and conduction disorders which appeared after admission were refractory to treatment and the outcome was fatal. On necropsy, minimal interstitial nephritis and myocarditis were seen, confirming the clinical diagnosis.

The mechanism of sinus node dysfunction caused by cardiac lymphostasis was studied in dogs with histological and electrophysiological methods. A total of seventeen mongrel dogs were used in this study. Out of them 12 animals were operated to induce cardiac lymphostasis and sacrificed 3, 6, and 10 days after operation.
