Global burden of mental health problems among children and adolescents during COVID-19 pandemic: An umbrella review.

Mental health problems among children and adolescents are increasingly reported amidst the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. In this umbrella review, we aimed to synthesize global evidence on the epidemiologic burden and correlates of child and adolescent mental health (CAMH) problems during this pandemic from existing systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Adopting the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology, we evaluated 422 citations and identified 17 eligible reviews with medium to high methodological quality. Most of the reviews reported a high prevalence of anxiety, depression, s

Wearable biosensors for real-time sweat analysis and body motion capture based on stretchable fiber-based triboelectric nanogenerators.

Carbon neutrality is a global green energy revolution meaning that the carbon dioxide can make ends meet. However, with the mushroom of the fifth generation wireless systems (5G) and the Internet of Things (IoT), it is a great challenge for powering the ubiquitous distributed devices, because the battery production and high overhead maintenance may bring more carbon emissions. Here, we present wearable biosensors for real-time sweat analysis and body motion capture based on stretchable fiber-based triboelectric nanogenerators (F-TENG). The F-TENG is made of stretchable conductive fiber (Ecofle

An Empirical Study of the Pathway Model Link Between Cognitive Distortions and Gambling Problems.

This research empirically tests the relationship between gambling-related cognitive distortions and the development of gambling problems. In two separate studies using methodologies designed to support non-experimental causal inference, we demonstrate that holding false beliefs about gambling experiences is related to current and future risk of developing problems with gambling. In our first study, we use an instrumental variable estimation strategy on an internet sample (n = 184) and observe a statistically significant relationship between Gamblers' Belief Questionnaire scores and measures of

Chances of pregnancy after dropping out from infertility treatments: Evidence from a social survey in Japan.

PURPOSE: We examined a patient's chances of pregnancy after dropping out from infertility treatments, an issue that has been largely understudied. METHOD: Drawing from a nationwide Internet survey in Japan with 1930 respondents, we used data from 199 individuals (109 women and 90 men) who had undergone an infertility treatment. We estimated linear probability models to investigate the extent to which the probability of pregnancy was affected by dropping out after controlling for a couple's attributes. RESULTS: Among the 199 respondents who had experienced an infertility treatment, 91 (45.7%

Biotemplated Fabrication of a Multifunctional Superwettable Shape Memory Film for Wearable Sensing Electronics and Smart Liquid Droplet Manipulation.

Wearable superwettable surfaces with dynamic tunable wettability and self-healability are promising for advanced wearable electronics, whereas have been rarely reported. Herein, a flexible superhydrophobic shape memory film (SSMF) with switchable surface wettability and high strain sensitivity has been conveniently fabricated. The surface topography of the SSMF can be finely adjusted by a reversible stretching (bending)/recovery way, which makes it feasible to control the surface-switchable adhesive superhydrophobicity by simple body movements, demonstrating great advantages in selective dropl

Exploring Sexting and Online Sexual Victimization during the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown.

The COVID-19 pandemic lockdown has impacted daily routines, forcing people to stop socializing in person and changing the way people express their feelings and their romantic or sexual interactions. Social distancing has changed the way people behave online, and we expect that engagement in sexting and online sexual victimization behaviors have increased during lockdown. The aim of this paper is to study the prevalence of sexting and online sexual victimization behaviors during the COVID-19 lockdown in Spanish adults in order to explore how social distancing has affected these behaviors. The s

Topic Modeling for Analyzing Patients' Perceptions and Concerns of Hearing Loss on Social Q&A Sites: Incorporating Patients' Perspective.

Hearing loss is the most common human sensory deficit, affecting normal communication. Recently, patients with hearing loss or at risk of hearing loss are increasingly turning to the online health community for health information and support. Information on health-related topics exchanged on the Internet is a useful resource to examine patients' informational needs. The ability to understand the patients' perspectives on hearing loss is critical for health professionals to develop a patient-centered intervention. In this paper, we apply Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) on electronic patient-a

Do depressive symptoms affect the outcome of treatments for SAD? A meta analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD) typically have elevated depressive symptoms. In the present meta-analysis, we reviewed the treatment outcome literature in SAD and examined whether depressive symptoms predict treatment outcome. We focused on randomized controlled trials of cognitive behavior therapy (individual face-to-face, group format, and internet-delivered format) and randomized controlled trials of pharmacotherapy. After implementing exclusion criteria, 108 studies with 133 treatment conditions (n = 12,913 participants) were included in the meta-analysis. Our findings indic

Slippery scales: Cost prompts, but not benefit prompts, modulate sentencing recommendations in laypeople.

Do people punish more than they would if the decision costs were more transparent? In two Internet-based vignette experiments, we tested whether juvenile sentencing recommendations among U.S. adults are responsive to variation in the salience of the taxpayer costs and public safety benefits of incarceration. Using a 2 Cost (present vs. absent) x 2 Benefit (present vs. absent) factorial design, Experiment 1 (N = 234) found that exposure to information about the direct costs of incarcerating the juvenile offender reduced sentencing recommendations by about 28%, but exposure to the public safety
