To clarify the frequency of the expression of HLA-DR antigens on the human small intestinal epithelium and the variation of such expression, 43 specimens (duodenum 16, jejunum 8, ileum 19; histologically normal 33, pathologic lesions 10) were studied for HLA-DR expression by indirect immunoperoxidase staining using monoclonal antibodies against HLA-DR antigens. BACKGROUND: We compared two types of gastro-jejunal (GJ) tubes used in children: Freka® percutaneous endoscopic GJ tube (FPEGJ) with solid internal bumpers and balloon gastro-jejunal tubes (BGJ). Despite differences in design, comparative data on safety, durability, and complications remain limited.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed of 69 children with active GJ tubes as of August 2024. Each tube episode lasted until replacement to a different tube type under general anaesthesia. Demographic data, complications, and frequency of elective and unplanned tube changes were analysed.
