Adult T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma is a relatively rare aggressive type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma with frequent involvement of extranodal sites. Because of the rarity of this malignancy, it is treated variably and often suboptimally, using approaches similar to those used for other types of aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphomas, with the consequence that outcome is often suboptimal. The commonest skull manifestations in neurofibromatosis involve the orbit, with very few reports about occipital defects. We report a rare case of a 54-year-old lady with a massive plexiform neurofibroma extending from the auricular region down her left neck and into her shoulder, with an associated large left occipital and left petrous bone defect and extensive cerebellar meningo-encephalocoele, which presented with a relatively asymptomatic cervical mass and was treated with resection of the neurofibroma and advancement and rotational skin flaps.

We present a child diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme during infancy and successfully treated with the 'eight-in-one' chemotherapy regimen, who developed an intracranial fibrosarcoma 5 years later. After resection of the fibrosarcoma, she received cranial radiation therapy and high dose chemotherapy with bone marrow transplant. She remains alive and recurrence-free 7 years following the diagnosis of her second intracranial malignancy.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of anticancer polypeptide from Buthus Martensii Venom (APBMV) on Immune function in the H22-bearing mice.
METHODS: The MTT colorimetric method, homolysin assay, lymphocyte transformation test, delayed hypersensitivity assay and WBC-count of peripheral blood were used in this study.
RESULTS: APBMV could obviously augment NK activity, promote proliferation of lymphocytes induced by Con A, potentiate the response of DTH induced by DNCB, antagonize the decrease of WBC in peripheral blood induced by 5-Fu in the H22-bearing mice.

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) of the biliary tree is a rare tumor in children that has a very poor prognosis. Preoperatively, it is often mistaken for a choledochal cyst. We report a case of RMS of the biliary tree in a 4-year-old girl who presented with abdominal pain and obstructive jaundice. The RMS was diagnosed at laparotomy; excision was not possible due to its size and localization. Chemotherapy achieved complete regression of the tumor observed at second-look surgery. Preoperative chemotherapy can now avoid mutilating surgical procedures and improve survival.

Nocturnal (23.00-07.00 h) urinary melatonin and total biopterin (tBI; after acidic oxidation of reduced biopterins) were analyzed during the growth of two passages of a mammary tumor line in female F344 Fischer rats. In addition, nocturnal (02.00-03.00 h) peak concentrations of pineal melatonin in plasma were analyzed when tumors had reached comparable average tumor volumes of 25-30 cm3. Since tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) is produced by murine macrophages in response to interferon-gamma released by activated T lymphocytes, measurements of tBI can serve to estimate the state of cellular immunity.

A child with stage 4 hepatoblastoma failed to respond to treatment with cisplatin and adriamycin. She then showed a response to carboplatin with complete clearing of pulmonary metastases. Bilobar liver disease persisted, although significantly reduced in size. A liver transplant was subsequently performed and she remains in complete remission 36 months later. After the first course of carboplatin, there was a dramatic rise in alpha-feto protein which then fell exponentially. Carboplatin warrants further study in hepatoblastoma.
