Levator Resection and Tarsorrhaphy as a Treatment for Bilateral Asymmetric Nystagmus With Oscillopsia.

The authors describe surgical occlusion with levator resection and partial tarsorrhaphy as a treatment for nystagmus with oscillopsia refractory to medical or surgical therapies. This was a case of Bardet-Biedl syndrome with high myopia and acquired sensory pendular nystagmus in both eyes, where a well-known technique was applied to a novel indication. Permanent occlusion of the left eye led to significant improvement in visual acuity and reduced oscillopsia, enhancing the psychological and social functioning. This case highlights the complexity of treating refractory nystagmus with oscillopsi

A meta-analysis of the efficacy of two-wall orbital decompression operations for thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy.

BACKGROUND: The main treatment for the symptoms of proptosis and optic nerve compression caused by thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy is orbital decompression surgery. Medial inferior wall decompression and balanced decompression are two frequently used surgical procedures. However, there is no unified consensus on how to choose different surgical options for orbital decompression in clinical practice. AIMS: To compare the effects of medial inferior wall decompression and balanced decompression surgery through meta-analysis and to provide reference for clinical optimal decision making. METHOD

Marginal Full Thickness Blepharotomy for Management of Orbital Compartment Syndrome.

PURPOSE: To assess the utility of a marginal full thickness blepharotomy (MFTB) for the treatment of orbital compartment syndrome. METHODS: An experimental study design employing a cadaver model for orbital compartment syndrome was used to assess the efficacy of an MFTB. Elevated orbital compartment pressures were created in 12 orbits of 6 fresh cadaver heads. Intraocular pressure, as an analog of orbital pressure, was measured before and after inferior and superior MFTBs were performed. Statistical analysis was performed on the collected data to assess the efficacy of the procedure. RESULTS

Computational intelligence in eye disease diagnosis: a comparative study.

In recent years, eye disorders are an important health issue among older people. Generally, individuals with eye diseases are unaware of the gradual growth of symptoms. Therefore, routine eye examinations are required for early diagnosis. Usually, eye disorders are identified by an ophthalmologist via a slit-lamp investigation. Slit-lamp interpretations are inadequate due to the differences in the analytical skills of the ophthalmologist, inconsistency in eye disorder analysis, and record maintenance issues. Therefore, digital images of an eye and computational intelligence (CI)-based approach

[The research progress of clinical features and pathogenesis of acute acquired concomitant esotropia].

Acute acquired concomitant esotropia (AACE) is a special type of esotropia that occurs suddenly and is accompanied by diplopia. In recent years, the number of patients with this eye disease has increased significantly. With differences in age and refractive status, children and adults have their own characteristics in terms of AACE classification, refractive status, eye position, and binocular visual function. However, the pathogenesis of AACE is still unclear. This article explores the pathogenesis and risk factors of AACE, including refractive error, convergence spasm, extraocular muscle, an

Joint optic disc and cup segmentation based on densely connected depthwise separable convolution deep network.

BACKGROUND: Glaucoma is an eye disease that causes vision loss and even blindness. The cup to disc ratio (CDR) is an important indicator for glaucoma screening and diagnosis. Accurate segmentation for the optic disc and cup helps obtain CDR. Although many deep learning-based methods have been proposed to segment the disc and cup for fundus image, achieving highly accurate segmentation performance is still a great challenge due to the heavy overlap between the optic disc and cup. METHODS: In this paper, we propose a two-stage method where the optic disc is firstly located and then the optic di
