INTRODUCTION: Prosthesis choice during aortic valve replacement (AVR) weighs lifelong anticoagulation with mechanical valves (M-AVR) against structural valve degeneration in bioprosthetic valves (B-AVR).
METHODS: The Nationwide Readmissions Database was queried to identify patients who underwent isolated surgical AVR between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2018, stratifying by prothesis type. Propensity score matching was used to compare risk-adjusted outcomes. Readmission at 1 y was estimated with Kaplan-Meier (KM) analysis.

We present a case of a Staphylococcus epidermidis early prosthetic valve endocarditis after minimally invasive sutureless aortic valve replacement. The patient developed a root abscess with a fistula, severe mitral and periprosthetic regurgitations, with a large mitral vegetation and a residual patent foramen ovale. BACKGROUND: Frozen elephant trunk has in recent times become a mainstay for total arch replacement in aortovascular surgery and is indicated to treat a spectrum of complex aortic pathologies. However, despite associated excellent postoperative results it is incredibly important to recognize potential adverse complications such as negative aortic remodeling, endoleak, and distal stent-graft induced new entry so that outcomes can be further improved.

Inaccuracies in intraoperative and preoperative measurements and estimations may lead to adverse outcomes such as patient-prosthesis mismatch. We aim to measure the relation between different dimensions of the atrioventricular valve complex in explanted porcine heart models.
