To assess the course of vesicoureteral reflux, we performed cystography, renal scintigraphy, and urography in all neonates with the prenatal diagnosis of renal pelvic dilation and revealed the presence of primary reflux (grades I to V) in 27 cases. Higher grades of reflux were associated with congenital renal damage, as shown by reduced tracer uptake during scintigraphy. Transurethral balloon dilation of the prostate (TUDP) is a nonsurgical procedure for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This procedure was used to treat 62 men with moderate to severe BPH who were candidates for TURP. We evaluated 22 men 22 to 70 years old with previous acute epididymitis by pressure-flow study 3 to 12 months after the inflammation had resolved. Nine healthy men 20 to 62 years old were evaluated as controls. The patients had no symptoms from the lower urinary tract except for 2 men with slight prostatism. A total of 24 boys with classical bladder exstrophy underwent initial urethral reconstruction at our hospital between 1975 and 1982. The records of 22 patients at Temple University Hospital with a diagnosis of rectovaginal fistula, from January 1970 to December 1980, were reviewed. Two main groups of muscle fibers could be identified: 1 with slow twitch oxidative fibers, which are fatigue resistant (type 1), and 1 with fast twitch fibers (type 2). We believe that there still is a place for passive compression of the bulbous urethra in the treatment of male urinary incontinence after prostatectomy or sphincterotomy. Experience with the treatment of 39 cases of urethral diverticula between the years 1954 and 1974 is reported. The patients were 32 women and 7 men. In 7 cases (3 women and 4 men) the condition was congenital in origin. In 30 patients the first symptoms appeared between the 31st and 60th year.
