BACKGROUND: Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly embedded in university students' writing, information retrieval, knowledge organisation and task completion. Although AI tools may improve learning convenience and access to resources, they may also generate technological uncertainty, pressure to adapt to new competencies and concerns about future development. As an important negative emotional response in intelligent technology contexts, AI anxiety may be closely associated with university students' academic motivation and psychological adaptation.
METHODS: This cross-sectio

Based on the analysis of literature and own clinical experience, we discuss diagnostic issues of early autistic disorders in children. Main differential-diagnostic signs that permit to differentiate mild forms of autism in childhood diagnosed as Asperger's syndrome from childhood schizophrenia, residual organic CNS damage, circular affective disorders are described. Cases of Asperger's syndrome followed up for many years and recommendations for social and psychological adaptation of children and adolescents with Asperger's syndrome in different age periods are presented.

BACKGROUND: Psychological challenges are common among patients starting peritoneal dialysis (PD), yet studies specifically exploring psychological well-being during PD initiation are limited. This qualitative pilot study aimed to identify the most frequent reasons prompting psychological referral among patients initiating PD at our center.
METHODS: We conducted a thematic analysis of the twice-monthly psychological support sessions involving 12 patients who were referred within the first 3 months of PD initiation due to symptoms of anxiety and insomnia. Among them, 7/12 were male, with a medi

Vitiligo is a progressive condition involving a loss of pigmentation in the skin; it can be disfiguring and no effective treatment or cure exists. Although vitiligo's medical effects have been studied extensively, little attention has been paid to its psychological impact or to the effects of psychological state on the illness itself. To address these issues, the present study examined the effect of cognitive behavioural therapy on coping with vitiligo and adaptation to the negative effects on body image, quality of life and self-esteem in adult patients. The study also examined whether any ps

Pigs in production systems are routinely exposed to challenging situations including abrupt weaning, painful husbandry procedures, intense contact with stockpeople, and exposure to novel social and physical environments. The resilience of pigs to these stressors has implications for animal welfare and productivity and can be affected by early life experiences. In rodents and primates, early experiences with stressors that the animal can adequately cope with confers future stress adaptability, leading to less abnormal behaviour, lower behavioural and physiological responses to stressors, and fa

BACKGROUND: A person's ability to adapt to a given context is a critical determinant of mental health and psychopathology, which has been redefined by network approaches and Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA). This study examined whether including adaptive processes in EMA enhances the informational value of idiographic network models.
METHOD: Forty-five university students participated in a multi-week EMA protocol assessing psychological dimensions using bipolar visual analogue scales ranging from maladaptive to adaptive. Participants were randomly assigned to two groups: one assessed onl

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to assess the defensive profile of primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS) patients and to investigate the independent associations of psychological distress and personality variables with health-related quality of life (HRQOL).
METHODS: In 40 primary SS patients we assessed psychological distress (SCL-90-R), ego defense mechanisms (Defense Style Questionnaire), hostility features (HDHQ) and HRQOL (WHOQOL-BREF). Fifty-six patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosous (SLE) and 80 healthy participants matched for age and sex served as controls.
RESULTS: Primary SS patients presente

This study examined religiosity and political worldviews, specifically government support, as socio-cultural mechanisms that buffer anxiety and promote coping during an ongoing war. Drawing on Terror Management Theory (TMT) and Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, we hypothesized that these orientations would be associated with higher individual and collective coping: individual resilience, societal resilience, perceived social cohesion, and hope, and with lower psychological distress, as well as better preservation of these resources over time. Data were collected across seven waves during

This study investigates how civilians who remained in war-affected suburbs of Kyiv following the 2022 outbreak of war in Ukraine cope with trauma and build resilience under conditions of prolonged insecurity. Using a mixed-methods design, we combine standardized assessments of post-traumatic stress symptoms (PCL-5) with in-depth qualitative interviews conducted in suburbs of Kyiv, a region largely neglected in empirical research. Nineteen interviews were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Two contrasting case vignettes, one with the highest and one with the lowest PTSD symptom load,

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the daily lives of people and communities. The physical and mental health, financial and social effects of the pandemic, and the subsequent cost-of-living crisis has furthered existing inequalities. The pre-pandemic precarity of finances and social capital among the most vulnerable communities, has led to an exacerbation of poorer health and greater anxiety. The aim of this study was to explore how individuals, voluntary organisations and employers experienced the pandemic, and how they adapted to the changing situation and their potentia

BACKGROUND: Testicular cancer (TC) disproportionately affects younger men and carries unique psychosocial and physiological consequences that extend well beyond treatment. Despite favorable survival rates, TC survivors frequently report diminished health-related quality of life (HRQoL). These burdens are often compounded by masculinity-related identity disruptions, fear of recurrence, sexual dysfunction, and a lack of tailored psychosocial support. Existing interventions remain limited, with most programs focused on physical rehabilitation or early detection. Few address the multidimensional s

BACKGROUND: Beyond its biological aspects, infertility interacts with systemic injustices, social stigma, and psychosocial pressures. To critically examine how infertility is experienced, mediated by gendered norms, structural barriers, and identity conflicts, this study draws on theoretical perspective of infertility as a socially entrenched issue by combining various concepts.
METHODS: This narrative review explores the psychological aspect of infertility with the synthesis of peer-reviewed articles. Literatures are critically analyzed using three theoretical frameworks (Stress and Coping T

To date, no studies have proposed specific taxonomies of stressors and coping strategies used to manage them by ultra trail runners in races longer than 200 miles, with existing research focusing on significantly shorter distances an then on challenges that could be of a different nature. The aim of this study was to fill this gap by developing specific taxonomies that would group both the stressors encountered and the coping strategies into distinct conceptual categories. Furthermore, to observe in a real competition if these taxonomies allows the evaluation of the coping strategies used by a

The microbiota-gut-brain axis regulates gastrointestinal and neurobehavioral processes, including stress responses. Although stress and dysbiosis independently impact host physiology, their combined effects remain poorly understood. This study evaluated antibiotic-induced dysbiosis and multifactorial stress (MFS) effects on stress-coping and intestinal functionality by exploring the microbiota-gut-brain interaction. Male Swiss mice were divided into Control, Dysbiosis, MFS, and Dysbiosis+MFS groups. Dysbiosis was induced by administration of 10 mL/kg/day of an antibiotic cocktail containing Va

BACKGROUND: Pregnant women who have undergone pregnancy loss often display both posttraumatic stress (PTS) and posttraumatic growth (PTG). However, the precise relationship and structure of symptomatic levels of PTS and PTG have not been well understood. This study aimed to assess the associations between PTS and PTG symptoms in women during subsequent pregnancies following a previous pregnancy loss.
METHODS: A total of 406 pregnant women with a history of pregnancy loss were included in this study. The Impact of Events Scale-6 (IES-6) and the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory Short Form (PTGI-S

OBJECTIVE: The diagnosis of cancer is an adverse event; nevertheless, it can also exert positive changes on survivors, such as posttraumatic growth (PTG). This review aims to integrate researches on PTG in colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors, including manifestations and prevalence of PTG, factors associated with PTG and interventions on PTG.
METHODS: A systematic search was implemented on six databases to identify studies on PTG in CRC survivors published in English or Chinese from October 1995 to May 2022. We also performed a manual search for additional studies from the article reference lis
