Improving the diagnostic performance of computed tomography angiography for intracranial large arterial stenosis by a novel super-resolution algorithm based on multi-scale residual denoising generative adversarial network.

BACKGROUND: Computed tomography angiography (CTA) is very popular because it is characterized by rapidity and accessibility. However, CTA is inferior to digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in the diagnosis of intracranial artery stenosis or occlusion. DSA is an invasive examination, so we optimized the quality of cephalic CTA images. METHODS: We used 5000 CTA images to train multi-scale residual denoising generative adversarial network (MRDGAN). And then 71 CTA images with intracranial large arterial stenosis were treated by Super-Resolution based on Generative Adversarial Network (SRGAN),

Delayed appearance of basilar trunk small atypical aneurysms in nontraumatic, initially angiogram-negative subarachnoid hemorrhage: A report of three patients.

BackgroundRepeat angiography will identify vascular pathology in approximately 10% of cases following angiogram-negative subarachnoid hemorrhage (anSAH), but small atypical aneurysms of the basilar artery are very uncommon.ObjectiveTo report a case series of delayed appearance of nontraumatic basilar artery small atypical aneurysms.MethodsIRB approval was obtained for this retrospective case series and patient consent was waived.ResultsHerein we report three cases of spontaneous anSAH, all of whom had a negative digital subtraction angiogram (DSA) on admission and all of whom had appearance of

A Case of Posterior Communicating Artery Aneurysm Accompanied with Infundibular Dilatation Mimicking a Double-Hump Aneurysm.

Posterior communicating artery (PComA) aneurysms are common cerebral aneurysms. In cases of PComA aneurysms accompanied by anatomical variations of PComA, such as hypoplasia, hyperplasia, or infundibular dilatation, it is challenging to completely determine the relationship between the parent artery, daughter arteries, and the aneurysmal neck preoperatively. We present a case of a ruptured PComA aneurysm originating from the PComA, accompanied by infundibular dilatation, which was preoperatively diagnosed as a double-hump PComA aneurysm with hypoplastic or absent PComA, based on computed tomog

Systematic review of computed tomographic angiography for assessment of carotid artery disease.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To review the literature on the diagnostic accuracy of computed tomographic angiography (CTA) compared with arteriography/intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography as reference standard for assessment of symptomatic carotid artery disease. METHODS: The PubMed, MEDLINE, PREMEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINAHL databases were searched to retrieve studies published between 1990 and July 2003, comparing CTA and intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography in patients with symptomatic carotid artery disease that presented raw data for detection of a <70% or 70% to 99% stenosis

Partially clipped intracranial aneurysm obliterated with combined stent and coil implantation.

PURPOSE: To report a case of endovascular stent placement to assist stable coil deployment in a symptomatic, wide-necked, partially clipped aneurysm. CASE REPORT: A 48-year-old woman presented for endovascular treatment of a symptomatic posterior communicating artery aneurysm remnant that was surgically clipped 10 years ago. A 3.5-mm x 12-mm balloon-expandable stent was placed across the aneurysm orifice followed by complete obliteration of the remnant with coils implanted through the stent mesh. Digital subtraction angiography documented continued patency of the arterial lumen and complete o

A Rare Case of Right Trigeminal Neuralgia Due to Dural Arteriovenous Fistula.

Trigeminal neuralgia (TGN) is often caused by a neurovascular conflict at the root entry zone of the fifth nerve. Dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) accounts for 3%-4% cases of TGN. We report a posttraumatic head injury patient, presenting with gait ataxia and right facial pain. Radiographic evidence with magnetic resonance imaging and digital subtraction angiography was suggestive of DAVF. Surgical clipping and obliteration of fistula alleviated the TGN.

[The spinal dural arteriovenous fistula is an underdiagnosed vascular malformation].

The spinal dural arteriovenous fistula is the most common spinal vascular malformation, and it is severely underdiagnosed. The symptoms can mimic those of spinal stenosis. Today, the diagnosis is made by an advantageous combination of MR time-resolved imaging of contrast kinetics and digital subtraction angiography posing low risk to the patient. Treatment is primarily direct microsurgical obliteration. Early treatment is essential, since outcome is dependent on preoperative clinical status.

Dissection of a non-bifurcating cervical carotid artery.

A non-bifurcating cervical carotid artery is a rare anomaly in the population. Radiologic diagnosis of pathologies seen together with this anomaly can be challenging. Despite not being diagnostic all the time, digital subtraction angiography is accepted as the gold standard method for the diagnosis of dissection. We present a case of a non-bifurcating cervical carotid artery and concomitant dissection, which presented to the hospital with trauma and ischemic findings.

[Digitalized angiography of the thorax in children].

Technical aspects and indications for the use of digital subtraction angiography of thorax in 109 children are discussed, and the interest of this exploratory method emphasized in chronic respiratory disease in children. Results obtained are compared with other investigations for screening of bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Although generally reliable for exploration of thoracic aorta anomalies (coarctation and abnormal vascular arch) it is considered to be incompletely effective for investigation of congenital heart disease.

The current role of renal angioplasty in the treatment of renovascular hypertension.

Percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty, a relatively noninvasive technique, has assumed an increasing role in the treatment of renovascular hypertension. The combined advent of digital subtraction angiography, renal-vein renin samples, and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty have prompted many physicians to reassess their treatment strategies. The authors present their experience with renal angioplasty at the New York Hospital and briefly describe the history and mechanism of action of this procedure.

Endovascular treatment of V3 segment vertebro-vertebral arteriovenous fistula with Willis covered stent: Case report and literature review.

A 46-year-old male presented to our hospital suffering from right mastoid pulsatile tinnitus secondary to traffic trauma. Digital subtraction angiography was remarkable for a vertebro-vertebral arteriovenous fistula fed by the right vertebral artery at the C1 level. Dual platelet therapy was administrated before and after the operation, then a Willis covered stent was deployed at the orifice of the fistula. Post-operative angiography showed proper stent localization but some contrast agent leaking from the fistula. Angiography performed 6 months post-operatively demonstrated no leak from the f

Misdiagnosis of a Patient with Internal Carotid Artery Fenestration: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: Internal carotid artery fenestration is a rare congenital cerebrovascular condition and can be misdiagnosed as carotid artery dissection. CASE REPORT: A patient was initially misdiagnosed with carotid artery dissection. This initial diagnosis was made using a carotid vascular computed angiography and magnetic resonance angiography. A digital subtraction angiography examination revealed a fenestration in the terminal C1 segment of the right internal carotid artery. Previous literature related to carotid artery fenestration was reviewed and analyzed. CONCLUSIONS: Fenestration of th

Improved characterization of popliteal aneurysms using gadofosveset-enhanced equilibrium phase magnetic resonance angiography.

Although standard magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) has many advantages in the evaluation of peripheral artery disease, it has poorer spatial resolution compared with computed tomographic angiography and digital subtraction angiography. The MRA blood pool contrast agents have an extended half-life. By allowing longer imaging times, MRA enables the acquisition of high-resolution images as well as providing simultaneous visualization of both arteries and veins. Two cases of popliteal artery aneurysm are presented, in which MRA with a blood pool contrast agent provided critical clues to the co

Update on imaging for suspected renovascular hypertension in children and adolescents.

Although the epidemic of childhood obesity in the developed world has resulted in more children being diagnosed with primary hypertension, renovascular disease remains an important consideration. The reason for investigation is to try and delineate if renovascular disease is present, as there is the potential to treat this group of patients. Those patients are usually identified by poor blood pressure control, despite the use of multiple anti-hypertensive medications or having known associated syndromes. Although advances in Doppler renal ultrasonography, computed tomography angiography (CTA)
