Analysis of the Prevalence and Species of Anisakis nematode in Sekisaba, Scomber japonicus Caught in Coastal Waters off Saganoseki, Oita in Japan.

Anisakidosis is developed by ingesting Anisakis in marine fish, including the chub mackerel, Scomber japonicus, without proper pre-treatment such as cooking or freezing. Two sibling species of Anisakis are found in S. japonicus from Japanese waters, and the prevalence and species of Anisakis in the fish depend on the sea area. For example, Anisakis simplex sensu stricto (s.s.) is found in the Pacific stock of S. japonicus, whereas A. pegreffii is found in the Tsushima Warm Current stock. S.japonicus caught in the Bungo Channel, off the coast of Saganoseki in Oita Prefecture, which is branded a

Anisakid nematode larvae in the liver of Atlantic cod Gadus morhua L. from West Greenland.

Anisakid nematode larvae occur frequently in the liver of Atlantic cod, but merely few infection data from cod in waters around Greenland exist. The present study reports the occurrence of third-stage anisakid larvae in the livers of 200 Atlantic cod caught on fishing grounds along the West coast of Greenland (fjord systems of Maniitsoq) in May, June, August and September 2017. Classical and molecular helminthological techniques were used to identify the nematodes. A total of 200 cod livers were examined, and 194 were infected with third-stage nematode larvae (overall prevalence of infection 9

Anisakis Dujardin, 1845 infection (Nematoda: Anisakidae) in Pygmy Sperm Whale Kogia breviceps Blainville, 1838 from west Pacific region off the coast of Philippine archipelago.

Cetaceans are definitive hosts of anisakid nematodes known to cause human anisakidosis. Despite the reported strandings of different cetaceans in the Philippines, studies on anisakids from these definitive hosts are limited. Here, the morphologically and molecularly identified anisakid species, specifically those of the genus Anisakis Dujardin, 1845 in stranded Pygmy Sperm Whale Kogia breviceps Blainville, 1838 in the west Pacific region off Philippine waters are presented. Morphological data using SEM and LM revealed multi-infections with different Anisakis species belonging to Anisakis type

Pathological and ultrastructural studies on anisakis simplex rudolphi-1809 infecting Carangoides bajad with special reference to intestinal maturation in puppies.

Thirty five (70%) of 51 Carangoides bajad were naturally infected with Anisakis simplex during the period from September 2007 to January 2008. The fish were collected from eastern south coast of the Red Sea at Hurgada. The morphological and ultrastructures of Anisakis larvae and adults, and the induced lesions in the fish (intermediate host), five puppies (final host) were orally given infected fish. The body of the larvae is gradually tapering towards the anterior part. It is covered by striated ornamentation longitudinally and horizontally, except the anterior region which is smooth. The mor

Anisakis simplex (s.l.) resistance to the action of gastric enzymes depends upon previous treatments applied to infected fish mince and affects antigen release.

BACKGROUND: Freezing is considered the most suitable technological treatment to avoid Anisakis infection from eating raw or undercooked fish but modifications of their cuticles upon freezing may reduce their resistance to gastric fluids, provoking a greater release of allergens. This work aimed to study the relationship between freezing-induced modifications of Anisakis simplex s.l., antigen recognition, and resistance to oral and gastric digestion in spiked fish mince. RESULTS: (i) Differences between non-treated larvae and larvae that survived freezing / thawing were studied in terms of res

First Molecular Diagnosis of Clinical Cases of Gastric Anisakiosis in Spain.

Anisakiosis is a fish-borne disease with gastrointestinal and/or allergic symptoms caused by the consumption of raw or undercooked fish parasitized with nematode larvae of the genus Anisakis. In Europe, Anisakis pegreffii has been detected as the causative agent, although the sibling species Anisakis simplex sensu stricto (s.s.) is also known to cause the disease in other parts of the world, and discrepancies exist regarding their respective pathogenic potential. In Spain a high number of cases has been recorded, with marinated anchovies being the main source of infection, although no specific

Molecular Cloning and Expression of a New Major Allergen, Ani s 14, from Anisakis simplex.

The nematode Anisakis simplex is a representative parasite infecting marine animals. When third stage larvae of A. simplex infecting fish and squids are ingested by humans, individuals previously sensitized by this parasite may experience IgE-mediated allergic reactions. So far, as many as 13 kinds of proteins (Ani s 1-13) have been identified as A. simplex allergens but several more unknown allergens are suggested to exist. In this study, therefore, chemiluminescent immunoscreening of an expression cDNA library constructed from the third stage larvae was conducted to identify a new allergen.

[Ecological aspects between Contracaecum sp. (Nematoda, Anisakidae) and the host Serrasalmus spilopleura Kner, 1860 (Pisces, Characidae) in natural populations of northeastern Argentina].

From February 1987 to February 1989, the populational biology of Contraceacum sp. (larvae) in its paratenic host, the fish Serrasalmus spilopleura Kner, 1860, was studied in two ponds in a subtropical permanent habitat northeastern of Argentina. Fishes from Ramada Paso pond presented 80% of prevalence and 1 to 132 larvae per fish while fishes from Aeroclub pond presented 63% of prevalence and 1 to 184 larvae per fish. Fishes collected from Aeroclub pond have shown a high prevalence of infection during the first period of study (1987), diminishing the following year. In fishes from Ramada Paso

Micro-evolutionary implications of allozymic and morphometric variations in sealworms Pseudoterranova sp. (Ascaridoidea: Anisakidae) among sympatric hosts from the southeastern Pacific Ocean.

We found significant morphometric and electrophoretic differences between sealworm larvae collected from four sympatric fish host species off the central coast of Chile. The South American sea lion, Otaria byronia, is a suitable host and most likely the only definitive host species in the study area. Morphological patterns of caudal papillae in adult males collected from sea lions and electrophoretic evidence from larvae and adults substantiate our conclusion that they belong to just one, new species yet to be described. The genetic and morphometric differences found between sealworm larvae fr

Allergic reactions to anisakis simplex parasitizing seafood.

BACKGROUND: The ingestion of Anisakidae ssp larvae parasitized fish can cause anisakiasis. Allergic reactions after ingestion of safely cooked but parasitized fish have been reported. METHODS: Twenty-three patients who suffered allergic reactions after seafood ingestion, with negative skin tests were studied. Anisakis simplex sensitization was assessed by skin prick test and/or specific serum Immunoglobulin E (IgE). Total serum IgE and specific IgE against the implicated seafood and Ascaris lumbricoides were also determined. RESULTS: Manifestations of Anisakis simplex allergy were urticaria/…

Evaluation of the resistance of Anisakis spp. larvae to products regularly used in the industry and households.

The rise in popularity of raw or undercooked fish dishes like sushi, sashimi, and ceviche has led to an increase in human cases of anisakiasis. This study aimed to evaluate the resistance of Anisakis larvae to substances like bleach, salt, brine, and marinades. Batches of 10 larvae were exposed to various concentrations of commercial bleach (pure, 50 %, 25 %, 12.5 %, 6.25 %) and salt (dry, 360 g/L, 90 g/L, 45 g/L, 20 g/L). Larvae were also tested with two vinaigrettes (one with mustard and one without) and four marinades made with vinegar and salt. Sodium hypochlorite was highly effective, kil…
