We report a case of mycotic keratitis caused by Lasiodiplodia theobromae in a 60-year-old man with a history of ocular trauma with vegetable matter. Ophthalmological assessment with slit-lamp and microbiological evaluation of the corneal ulcer by conventional microbiological techniques were performed. Mycology study of the corneal scraping showed the presence of fungal filaments and the isolate was identified as Lasiodiplodia theobromae. Patient was treated with natamycin 5% and fluconazole 0.2% for 37 days. The infection was controlled but the corneal scars required a cornea transplant. This

Chromomycosis is a chronic fungal skin infection. It manifests frequently by warty or vegetative lesions in exposed areas, most often secondary to trauma. The diagnosis, nevertheless, is confirmed by the presence of fungi in the mycological examination. In fact, the treatment remains a challenge given its recalcitrant nature.

BACKGROUND: Chromoblastomycosis is a chronic fungal infection caused by fungi from the Dematiaceae family. According to several studies, Fonsecaea pedrosoi is the most common of these fungi. The infection is more common in tropical countries, with the Brazilian state of Pará having one of the largest infected populations worldwide. INTRODUCTION: Toxocara canis is an ascarid parasite of the small intestine of dogs that causes visceral larva migrans in humans.
METHODS: With the aim of demonstrating the effectiveness of the fungus Pochonia chlamydosporia on Toxocara canis eggs under laboratory conditions, a trial was set up in Petri dishes with 2% agar-water.

We report a case of chromoblastomycosis in a 67-year-old female farmer, which involved a large (20 x 30 cm) cicatricial erythematous plaque on the inner side of her right thigh. This study describes the molecular typing of Pneumocystis jiroveci organisms from 5 nonpremature immunocompetent infants who developed a primary infection. Four P. jiroveci internal transcribed spacer (ITS) types were identified. All have been previously described in reports concerning immunosuppressed adults with pneumocystosis. Present data suggest that identical types can be implicated either in first contact or in additional contacts between fungus and host and that both immunocompetent infants and immunocompromised patients may be part of a common human reservoir for the fungus.

In the present study, the homology relationships among fragments amplified by ERIC (Enterobacterial Repetitive Intergenic Consensus) and REP (Repetitive Extragenic Palindromic) primers in Drechslera avenae and Stemphylium solani causing leaf blotch and black spot of oats and leaf blight of cotton, respectively, were investigated by Southern hybridization followed by DNA sequencing. A 2-year-old female Boxer dog was presented with a history of skin lesions that started 1 month after being given oral glucocorticoids for a neurologic problem. Mean weight of 20 Quarter Horse placentas on a wet basis was 3.27 +/- 0.17 kg. Pseudallescheria boydii is a ubiquitous mold of soil and is a frequent cause of mycetoma in the United States. Involvement of the sinuses is extremely rare. The necessity of medical and/or surgical management is largely unknown but appears to be dependent on variables of host defense mechanisms, as the fungus is relatively avirulent. Chronic maxillary sinusitis secondary to P boydii developed in a noncompromised woman. Evidence of erosion of the bony wall of the orbit was encountered at operation. Successful eradication of this infection was accomplished with surgical drainage alone.
