Bacteriological Profile and Antibiotic Resistance Patterns of Uropathogenic Bacteria at HPGRB.

BACKGROUND: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) represent a major public health concern, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, where they are highly prevalent and increasingly associated with antimicrobial resistance. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), data on the bacteriological profile and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of uropathogens remain scarce. This study aimed to describe the bacteriological profile, antibiotic resistance patterns, and factors associated with multidrug resistance (MDR) among uropathogens at the Hôpital Provincial Général de Référence de Bukavu (HPG

A Single-Center Retrospective Study on the Bacteriological Profile of Breast Abscesses.

INTRODUCTION: Breast abscesses are a common clinical condition, primarily affecting lactating women as a result of mastitis. It can also occur in non-lactating women due to a variety of factors such as diabetes, immunosuppression, and trauma. The microbiological etiology of breast abscesses is important for determining effective antibiotic therapy and preventing complications. This study aims to identify the microbiological profile of breast abscesses, characterize the common pathogens, and analyze their antibiotic resistance patterns. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 108 pa

Suboptimal Bacteriological Quality of Household Water in Municipal Ibadan, Nigeria.

Access to potable water is difficult for many African residents. This study evaluated the bacteriological quality of household water collected in the dry and wet seasons across five municipal local government areas (LGAs) in Ibadan, a large city in southwest Nigeria. A total of 447 water samples (dry season, n = 250; wet season, n = 197) were aseptically collected from a random sample of mapped households within Ibadan's five municipal LGAs. The pH values and total aerobic and coliform bacterial counts were measured, and samples were screened for Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella, and Yer

Etiologic Investigation of Patients Diagnosed with Bacteriologically Unconfirmed Tuberculosis in Tanzania.

Globally, half of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) are diagnosed clinically without bacteriologic confirmation. In clinically diagnosed PTB patients, we assessed both the proportion in whom PTB could be bacteriologically confirmed by reference standard diagnostic tests and the prevalence of diseases that mimic PTB. We recruited adult patients beginning treatment of bacteriologically unconfirmed PTB in Moshi, Tanzania, in 2019. We performed mycobacterial smear, Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra, and mycobacterial culture, fungal culture, and bacterial culture on two induced sputum samples: fungal s

Bacteriological profile and frequency of antibiotic resistance in the infected diabetic foot.

The diabetic foot (DF) is a major public health problem, with infection of the DF being a major risk factor for amputation. This study aimed to establish the bacteriological profile of diabetic foot infection and to evaluate the resistance of isolated bacteria to antibiotics. Retrospective study of 150 patients in the internal medicine departments of the University Hospital of Batna, the University Hospital of Constantine and the EPH of Oum El Bouaghi, over 24 months from September 2019 to August 2021. The population had an average age of 46±13 years and a sex ratio of 1.88 in favour of men. T

Bacteriological Studies of Venomous Snakebite Wounds in Hangzhou, Southeast China.

Snakebite is a common occurrence in Hangzhou, and identifying bacteria in wounds is very important for snakebite treatment. To define the pattern of wound bacterial flora of venomous snakebites and their susceptibility to common antibiotics, we reviewed the medical charts of patients admitted with snakebite at Hangzhou TCM Hospital from January 2019 to December 2020. A total of 311 patients were enrolled in this study. Among them, bacteria culture was positive in 40 patients, and 80 organisms were isolated. The most frequent pathogens were Morganella morganii and Staphylococcus aureus. Accordi

COMPREHENSIVE BACTERIOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE VAGINAL DISCHARGE DURING BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS.

Along with sexually transmitted infections opportunistic pathogens and normal microbiota are becoming increasingly clinically important. Opportunistic pathogens can lead to purulent-inflammatory process of the genitals The aim of the current work was to detect qualitative and quantitative composition of vagina contents in non-specific bacterial vaginosis. Vaginal microbiota of 298 women aged from 16 to 64 years old was analyzed. Examination was provided by polymerase chain reaction. In normocenosis with domination of enterobacteria the prevalence index of conditionally-pathogenic microflora wa

Bacteriological profile of ventilator-associated pneumonia in a tertiary care hospital.

BACKGROUND: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the most frequent intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired infection. The etiology of VAP and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern varies with different patient populations and types of ICUs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational cross-sectional study was performed over a period of 2 years in a tertiary care hospital to determine the various etiological agents causing VAP and to detect the presence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens in these VAP patients. Combination disk method, Modified Hodge test, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid di

[An analysis of relative factors, bacteriological profile and antibiogram of neonatal sepsis].

Objective: This study was designed to identify the relative factors, bacteriological profile and their antibiotic susceptibility pattern of neonatal sepsis. Methods: A retrospective survey was conducted on the clinical information, pathogen identification and antibiotic sensitivity results of 425 newborns with neonatal sepsis admitted to Nanjing Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital from 2010 to 2017. Of the 425 positive blood-cultures, 148 (34.82%) were early-onset neonatal sepsis (EOS) and 277 (65.18%) were late-onset neonatal sepsis (LOS). Clinical information and pathogen identification

Detection of bovine carriers of Leptospira by serological, bacteriological, and molecular tools.

Bovine leptospirosis is an important infectious disease that causes reproductive problems and economic risks, particularly in the tropics. The present study aimed to determine the extent of Leptospira infection among bovines on a slaughterhouse from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil via serological, bacteriological, and molecular tests. Two hundred eight bovines were examined in total, and we obtained 208 blood samples for serology, 198 urine samples collected via direct bladder puncture for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and culture, 208 kidney samples (one from each animal) for PCR and culture, and 92

Bacteriological profile of ocular surface flora in meibomian gland dysfunction.

PURPOSE: To compare the bacteriological profile of meibomian gland secretion and conjunctival cul-de-sac in subjects with and without meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). METHODS: This hospital-based study enrolled 201 eyes from 201 MGD patients and 84 eyes from 84 age- and gender-matched controls. Samples from the conjunctivae and meibomian gland secretion were obtained. Both aerobic and anaerobic cultures were performed. Differences in the culture-positivity and bacterial strains between two groups were compared. RESULTS: 36.9% and 10.7% of the control meibomian gland secretion recovered aer
