In vitro and In vivo Activity of a New N-Oxide Derivative for Acne Vulgaris Treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Furoxan and benzofuroxan are compounds containing an N-oxide function, known for their diverse pharmacological properties, inc … s, highlighting its anti-inflammatory properties. CONCLUSION: Similar results were observed in the benzoyl peroxide group, demonstrating that compound 15 presented comparable anti-inflammatory activity to the FDA-approved drug. These promising results suggest that compound 15 has a dual mechanism of action, with selective antimicrobial activity against C. acnes a …

Updated Swiss Practice Recommendations for the Treatment of Acne.

Acne is one of the most common skin diseases. It has a high impact on the quality of life of the affected patients. It is now recognized tha … ease. Its main component is a topical retinoid alone or - in more severe case - in combination with benzoyl peroxide (BPO). Only in moderate to severe forms of acne or if a more rapid resolution of inflammatory lesions is desired, a systemic antibiotic should be added to induction treatment. For severe acne with a tendency to scarring, systemic retinoids are the i …

[Pseudofolliculitis barbae].

Pseudofolliculitis barbae is a chronic, irritating, and potentially disfiguring condition that develops as a result of attempts to eliminate hair from the beard area, usually by shaving. It is difficult to determine the incidence of the disorder, but some studies report that it affects up to 1 of every 5 caucasian individuals and that it is much more common in black persons. Clinically it is characterized by the appearance of inflammatory papules and pustules. Once pseudofolliculitis has become established, treatment consists of avoiding shaving and the use of medical treatment similar to that

Design, synthesis and mechanism study of fluorine-containing bulbocapnine derivatives inducing ferroptosis for anti-colon Cancer therapy.

In this study, using repeated silica gel column chromatography with gradient elution, we isolated seven natural alkaloids from Corydalis dasyptera Maxim. Among them, bulbocapnine has a significant inhibitory effect on colon cancer cells. We chemically modified bulbocapnine by esterifying its phenolic hydroxyl group with various aromatic acyl chlorides, including fluorinated benzoyl, fluorinated phenylacetyl, and fluorinated nicotinoyl moieties, to systematically study the effects of different substituents on its anti-cancer activity. Among them, the two fluorinated derivatives: B1 (4-fluoroben

Novel, multi-purpose, PMMA-type adhesive resin with newly synthesized microcapsule of radical polymerization initiators.

The behavior of microencapsulated polymerization initiators in dental adhesives is unknown. This study investigated the effects of new microencapsulated initiators in novel, multi-purpose, PMMA-type adhesive resin on the bonding performance and polymerization reactivity. Microencapsulated BPO and 1,3,5-trimethylbarbituric acid (TMBA) with PEMA as a shell polymer were quantitatively synthesized at 97-98% yield with 30-54 microm diameter. Adhesive-MC (comprising the synthesized microcapsules) and Adhesive-BR (comprising bare BPO and bare TMBA) were prepared and stored at 5 degrees C, 23 degrees

Managing acne vulgaris effectively.

The management of acne is a gratifying experience. Available treatments are effective, relatively nontoxic and generally safe. However, there is no quick fix. Antibiotics, hormone therapies and topical therapies are maintenance treatments. Isotretinoin can induce remission, as can some of the newer physical modalities of lights, lasers and radiofrequency devices. Effective management of acne often requires using a combination of treatments that act on different parts of the pathogenic process of acne development.

Systematic review of rosacea treatments.

BACKGROUND: Rosacea is a common chronic skin and ocular condition. It is unclear which treatments are most effective. We have conducted a Cochrane review of rosacea therapies. This article is a distillation of that work. OBJECTIVE: We sought to assess the evidence for the efficacy and safety of rosacea therapies. METHODS: Multiple databases were systematically searched. Randomized controlled trials in people with moderate to severe rosacea were included. Study selection, assessment of methodologic quality, data extraction, and analysis were carried out by two independent researchers. RESULT

Photosensitivity to ketoprofen: mechanisms and pharmacoepidemiological data.

The topical use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), widely used for moderate acute and chronic painful conditions, is one of several strategies used to improve the tolerability profile of NSAIDs, particularly with regard to gastric and renal adverse effects. However, topical NSAIDs can induce photosensitivity. Among the different NSAIDs used topically, ketoprofen has often been implicated in photosensitivity reactions. Photosensitivity includes both phototoxic and photoallergic reactions. Phototoxicity can be studied in the cell system and on biological targets such as cellular m

Comparative Efficacy of Pharmacological and Nonpharmacological Interventions for Acne Vulgaris: A Network Meta-Analysis.

Acne has several effects on physical symptoms, but the main impacts are on the quality of life, which can be improved by treatment. There are several acne treatments but less evidence comparing their relative efficacy. Thus, we assessed the comparative efficacy of pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions for acne. We searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from inception to April 2019, to include randomized controlled trials for acne that compared topical antibiotics (TA), benzoyl peroxide (BPO), topical retinoids (TR), oral antibiotics (OA),…

SIG1459: A novel phytyl-cysteine derived TLR2 modulator with in vitro and clinical anti-acne activity.

Cutibacterium (formerly Propionibacterium acnes) is a major contributor to the pathogenesis of acne. C. acnes initiates an innate immune response in keratinocytes via recognition and activation of toll-like receptor-2 (TLR2), a key step in comedogenesis. Tetramethyl-hexadecenyl-cysteine-formylprolinate (SIG1459), a novel anti-acne isoprenylcysteine (IPC) small molecule, is shown in this study to have direct antibacterial activity and inhibit TLR2 inflammatory signalling. In vitro antibacterial activity of SIG1459 against C. acnes was established demonstrating minimal inhibitory concentration (

Over-the-counter treatments for acne and rosacea.

Acne and rosacea are common inflammatory processes historically classified in the same disease category, but evolving understanding of their disparate pathophysiology and exacerbating factors have generated an enormous armamentarium of therapeutic possibilities. Patients seek over-the-counter therapies first when managing cutaneous disease; therefore, this review defines ingredients considered to be effective over-the-counter acne and rosacea products, their mechanisms, and safe formulations, including botanical components, oral supplements, and other anecdotal options in this vast skin care d

Treatment of acne in children.

Acne is a common skin condition in adolescents. It is not uncommon in childhood and it persists into adulthood. A broad range of acne treatments are available and have been shown to be safe and effective in adolescents and adults. However, there is limited literature regarding acne treatment in childhood and its available therapeutic options. It seems reasonable to extrapolate findings of the various studies reported on treatment of acne in the adolescent and adult age group, with the exclusion of the use of tetracycline derivatives. As clinicians, we must be more familiar with the clinical pr

[An investigational study of acne treatment in France].

BACKGROUND: Acne is one of the main reasons for dermatological consultation. Management may seem standardized, in particular for mild to moderate juvenile facial acne, where topical treatments are used for mild cases and topical treatments associated with systemic antibiotics are used for moderate cases. The aim of this investigational study was to evaluate current treatment approaches for mild to moderate acne patients by French dermatologists in private practice. METHODS: During this study, more than 252 dermatologists practising in over 144 French cities were asked about their preferred tr
