Oral squamous papillomas were segregated from other papillary lesions on the basis of histopathologic features. Twenty representative papillomas were evaluated for the presence of papillomavirus genus-specific antigen with the use of an immunoperoxidase technique. These same tumors were analyzed for human papillomavirus (HPV) types 2, 4, 6, and 11 with biotinylated full-length double-stranded DNA probes by in situ hybridization. A comparison was made between three different strategies for measuring beta-nerve growth factor (NGF) by fluorometric enzyme immunoassay. The substrate used was 4-methylumbelliferyl-beta-galactoside and the enzyme reaction was followed in a Microfluor plate reader (Dynatech). We previously reported that low-dose doxycycline (DOXY) therapy reduces host-derived collagenase activity in gingival tissue of adult periodontitis (AP) patients. To assist with bacterial protease target discovery, we have applied and compared two N-terminomics methods to investigate cleavage of human serum proteins by S. aureus V8 protease, discovering 85 host-protein targets. Adenoviruses (Ads) are robust vectors for therapeutic applications and vaccines, but their use can be limited by differences in their in vitro and in vivo pharmacologies. This review emphasizes that there is not just one Ad, but a whole virome of diverse viruses that can be used as therapeutics. It discusses that true vector targeting involves not only retargeting viruses, but importantly also detargeting the viruses from off-target cells.

Presented herein are two detection strategies for the identification and quantification of Bacillus globigii, a spore forming nonpathogenic simulant of Bacillus anthracis. The first strategy involves a label-free, metal-enhanced electrochemical immunosensor for the quantitative detection of Bacillus globigii (atrophaeus). The immunosensor comprises of antibacillus globigii (BG) antibody self-assembled onto a gold quartz crystal electrode via cystamine bond. A solid-phase monolayer of silver underpotentially deposited onto the cystamine modified-Au-electrode surface is used as the redox probe.

AIMS: IgA nephropathy, the most common primary glomerulonephritis worldwide, is characterized by glomerular deposition of galactose-deficient IgA1 and elevated serum levels of this IgA1 glycoform. Current ELISA methods lack sensitivity to assess galactose deficiency using small amounts of IgA1, which limits studies in primary cells due to modest IgA1 production in isolated peripheral-blood lymphocytes.
