Cisnormativity as a structural barrier to STI testing for trans masculine, two-spirit, and non-binary people who are gay, bisexual, or have sex with men.

Trans masculine, two-spirit, and non-binary people who are gay, bisexual or otherwise have sex with men (TGBM) are under-tested for sexually transmitted infections (STI) and may face complex, intersectional barriers that prevent them from accessing STI testing. As part of a study on gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men's (GBM) experiences of current STI testing systems in Ontario, Canada, this paper reports on the findings from TGBM participants' experiences with in-person STI testing in a range of venues (i.e. Family doctors, walk-in clinics, and community-based organizations) to

The Effects of Prostate Cancer Treatment on Role-In-Sex in Gay and Bisexual Men: Mixed Methods Results from the Restore-1 and Restore-2 Studies.

Gay and bisexual men (GBM) with prostate cancer experience worse sexual and mental health outcomes following prostate cancer treatment than heterosexual men. Emerging evidence suggests that GBM may change their role-in-sex in response to treatment effects. The purpose of this study was to describe the impact of prostate cancer treatment on role-in-sex, to estimate the prevalence of such changes, and to determine the impact on quality of life and mental health. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 30 sexual minority prostate cancer patients. Then, we recruited 401 gay and bisexual prost

Sex Conservatism, Internalized Homonegativity, PrEP Stigma, and Intention to Use PrEP: A Study of Chinese-Speaking Gay and Bisexual Male Youth in Hong Kong.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) stigma has been found to be a major barrier to PrEP acceptability and uptake. Research has found that different ethnic/cultural groups display varying levels of PrEP stigma. This article studies sex conservatism and internalized homonegativity as two sexuality- and culture-related aspects that influence PrEP stigma and intention to use PrEP. An online survey of 279 young gay and bisexual men in Hong Kong found that internalized homonegativity was positively associated with PrEP stigma. Respondents who were more conservative about sex showed lower intention to us

PrEP-related stigma and PrEP use among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Ontario and British Columbia, Canada.

BACKGROUND: We aimed to explore the association between PrEP-related stereotypes and perceived disapproval (hereafter PrEP-related stigma), and PrEP use. METHODS: We used data from a cross-sectional online survey among adult gay, bisexual, other men who have sex with men in Ontario and British Columbia, Canada. Participants were recruited 2019-2020 in-person from sexual health clinics and outreach programs, and online through dating mobile applications and websites. We used logistic regression models to explore the relationship between PrEP-related stigma and: 1-being a 'never' versus 'curren

Examining the impacts of a syphilis awareness campaign among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM) in British Columbia, Canada.

OBJECTIVES: Syphilis rates have increased in BC and disproportionately affect gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM). A social marketing campaign (Syphistory) ran from January to September 2017 with the primary goal of increasing syphilis knowledge and a secondary goal of increasing syphilis screening among gbMSM in BC. METHODS: We used pre- and post-campaign surveys to assess changes in syphilis knowledge from a convenience sample of clients attending STI clinics using one-sided t-tests. We used online Piwik metrics to examine the campaign reach, and provincial testing da

Attitudes and Knowledge of Medical Students Towards Healthcare for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Seniors: Impact of a Case-Based Discussion With Facilitators From the Community.

BACKGROUND: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) seniors are generally a medically underserved population that faces unique healthcare challenges. When compared to younger patients, LGBT seniors are at a greater risk for social isolation and have higher rates of smoking, disability, physical and mental distress, and lack of access to healthcare services. They are often reluctant to discuss their sexual orientations and gender identities with healthcare providers due to fear of discrimination and receiving inferior care based on prior unsatisfactory experiences with untrained or insen

Exploring influences on methamphetamine use among Black gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Atlanta: A focus group study.

BACKGROUND: Methamphetamine use is a contributor to HIV risk and poor health outcomes among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). There is a paucity of research examining methamphetamine use and its social context specifically among Black GBMSM. We therefore sought to: (1) describe trends in methamphetamine use among Black GBMSM in Atlanta, Georgia, and (2) examine the risk environment (micro-, meso‑ and macro-level factors operating in the political, social, physical, economic, and healthcare environments) that might elevate risk for methamphetamine use in this population

Pain and Loss of Pleasure in Receptive Anal Sex for Gay and Bisexual Men following Prostate Cancer Treatment: Results from the Restore-1 Study.

Prostate cancer treatments disrupt receptive anal intercourse (RAI) for gay and bisexual men (GBM). Sexual dysfunction following prostate cancer treatment may include severe pain in the anorectum during RAI (i.e., anodyspareunia). The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of prostate cancer and its treatments on RAI among GBM. Data were from a cross-sectional online survey of 100 GBM prostate cancer survivors who reported pleasurable RAI prior to treatment. Approximately 47% of the sample reported recent RAI, which was more common among GBM in long-term relationships. RAI was also as

Exploring the role of trauma in underpinning sexualised drug use ('chemsex') among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Singapore.

BACKGROUND: Sexualised drug use (SDU) has been identified as a major risk factor for HIV, as well as other mental health comorbidities among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). While multiple studies have been conducted on the topic, few have explored the role of trauma in underpinning experiences of SDU among substance use treatment-experienced GBMSM. This qualitative study investigates life histories of trauma, and proposes a framework to better situate the factors driving SDU among treatment-experienced GBMSM. METHODS: We conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews

Estimating the syphilis epidemic among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men in Australia following changes in HIV care and prevention.

UNLABELLED: Background Syphilis control remains a challenge in many high-income countries, including Australia, where diagnoses are concentrated among gay, bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (GBM). The aim of this study is to project the syphilis epidemic among GBM under a range of scenarios. METHODS: A dynamic coinfection model of HIV and syphilis transmission among GBM in Victoria, Australia, was parametrised to test data from clinics in Melbourne and syphilis case notifications in Victoria. Projected outcomes were new syphilis infections between 2018 and 2025 under seven test

Internalized Homophobia and Drug Use in a National Cohort of Gay and Bisexual Men: Examining Depression, Sexual Anxiety, and Gay Community Attachment as Mediating Factors.

The minority stress process of internalized homophobia (IH) has been associated with a range of adverse health outcomes among gay and bisexual men (GBM). However, evidence is mixed regarding the effect of IH on drug use, suggesting the potential role of multiple mediated pathways. Researchers have linked depression, sexual anxiety, and gay community attachment with IH. Depression, sexual anxiety, and gay community attachment have also been linked with drug use and drug-related problems suggesting potential mediating roles. A U.S. national sample of 1071 HIV-negative GBM completed at-home surve

Sociodemographic characteristics explain differences in unprotected sexual behavior among young HIV-negative gay, bisexual, and other YMSM in New York City.

Young gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (YMSM) under age 30 in New York City are at high risk for acquiring HIV. Using the theoretical framing of fundamental causes, this analysis examined the extent to which sociodemographic factors (race/ethnicity, perceived familial socioeconomic status [SES], U.S.-born status, and sexual orientation) explain the likelihood that HIV-negative YMSM ages 18 and 19 engage in unprotected sexual behavior, which may place them at risk for serconversion. Data were drawn from the baseline (Wave 1) assessment of a cohort study (N=592) collected betwe
