The authors evaluated 50 cases of primary melanoma of the choroid and ciliary body. In each case, 100 cells were randomly selected from a single histologic slide, and on each cell computer-assisted measurements were made of 18 nuclear and nucleolar features. Means and standard deviations were calculated for each of these features in each tumor. Ocular melanomas are the most common intraocular malignancy in adults. The majority of ocular melanomas are choroidal melanomas. These tumors can be difficult to diagnose, especially when they are small. METHODS: Record review of the Rochester Epidemiology Project medical record linkage system from 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2015 for patient demographics, tumour type by clinical diagnosis and presence or absence of confirmation by histopathology. BACKGROUND: Metastatic renal cell carcinoma to the choroid plexus is a rare condition and can be easily confused with meningioma.
METHODS: A 61-year-old female presented with progressive neurologic deterioration and MRI findings of obstructive hydrocephalus and a homogeneously contrast enhancing 3 cm oval mass in the trigone of the left lateral ventricle.
RESULTS: Despite radiologic, intraoperative gross features, and frozen pathology all consistent with meningioma, the final pathology revealed metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
CONCLUSION: Renal cell carcinoma metastatic to the choroid plexu

The authors report a case of choroid plexus papilloma developped in the fourth ventricle. After complete surgical resection, two local recurrences of the tumor occurred, and required new surgical procedures. Eight years after the first operation, a papilloma of the right lateral ventricle was resected. The histological examination showed benign choroid plexus papilloma after each operation. Recurrence and seeding of benign choroid plexus papillomas are infrequent in the literature. For this reason, a long-term follow-up, by clinical examination and CT scan, is necessary for those patients.

Determining when a previously benign choroidal nevi becomes malignant can be challenging, as traditional biopsy methods are often invasive and can lead to secondary complications such as endophthalmitis and vitreous hemorrhage. Using a transvitreal approach with the 27-gauge vitrectomy system provides several advantages, including direct visualization, theoretically lower risk of inadvertent seeding, and collection of a larger sample size.
