Gold(I)-catalyzed asymmetric cyclization of 1,3-dihydroxymethyl-2-alkynylbenzene chromium complexes gave planar chiral isochromene chromium complexes with high enantioselectivity. Enantiomeric excess of the cyclization products was largely affected by a combination of axially chiral diphosphine(AuCl)(2) precatalysts and silver salts. Adsorption thermodynamic characteristic and kinetics of dissolved chromium from aqueous solutions onto humic acids (HAs) were studied. The results showed that the Freundlich isotherm model described the equilibrium data well. The negative DeltaG degrees confirmed the spontaneity of adsorption process. Two sources of chromium III, "chromium 454" and "chromium picolinate," were tested in insulin-deficient Streptozocin-treated diabetic rats. In pentacarbonyl(4-phenylpyridine)tungsten(0), [W(C(11)H(9)N)(CO)(5)], the molecules have mm site symmetry and the pyridine ligand, with m symmetry, is completely planar. In pentacarbonyl(2-phenylpyridine)chromium(0), [Cr(C(11)H(9)N)(CO)(5)], the molecules are in general positions and the phenyl and pyridine rings of the ligand are twisted by 67.7 (3) degrees with respect to one another by rotation about the C-C bond joining them. In both compounds, the axial M-C(carbonyl) bond trans to the M-N(ligand) bond is significantly shorter than the equatorial M-C(carbonyl) bonds.

Chromium (Cr) is a human carcinogen and a potent DNA damaging agent. Incubation of DNA with CrCl3 resulted in dose-dependent binding of Cr to DNA and, at concentrations >20 microM, altered the electrophoretic mobility of a 100 bp oligonucleotide. We also demonstrate that high mobility group (HMG) proteins 1 and 2 bind Cr-damaged DNA (Cr-DNA). Protein binding was lesion density-dependent, with maximal binding to DNA treated with 100 microM CrCl3. HMG2 binds to Cr-DNA with a calculated Kd of approximately 10(-9) M. Glycosides of the fully acetylated 3-amino-3,6-dideoxy-L-hexosides in the gluco, galacto, manno, and talo configurations have been treated with chromium trioxide in acetic acid. The alpha-L-methyl glycosides, which exist in the more stable chair conformation 1C4, with an axially oriented aglycon, are resistant to this oxidation, whereas the beta-L-linked glycoside having the gluco configuration (1C4 conformation) and the alpha-L-methyl glycoside having the talo configuration (4C1 conformation), both with equatorially oriented aglycons, are oxidized to the corresponding 5-adulosonates.
