[A case of endocrine cell carcinoma of the ascending colon with liver metastasis treated with hepatectomy after excision of the primary lesion and systemic chemotherapy].

A 77-year-old man who complained of melena was admitted to our department. Colonoscopy revealed a type 2 tumor in the hepatic flexure of the ascending colon. Biopsy examination revealed a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Abdominal computed tomography(CT)revealed 3 tumors within the posterior segment of the right hepatic lobe. Initially, a right hemicolectomy was performed. Immunohistochemically, the tumor was diagnosed as an endocrine cell carcinoma. After surgery, a capecitabine, oxaliplatin, and bevacizumab(CapeOX/BEV)regimen was administered. However, after 5 chemotherapy courses, abdo

Robot-assisted right hemicolectomy for ascending colon cancer with a rare common trunk for the ileocolic and middle colic arteries: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Anatomical variations in the arterial supply to the right colon are clinically relevant in patients undergoing laparoscopic and robotic colectomy, as misidentification of the vessels may lead to inadequate lymphadenectomy or bowel ischemia. A common trunk formed by the ileocolic artery (ICA) and middle colic artery (MCA), arising from the superior mesenteric artery (SMA), is an uncommon vascular configuration that may complicate surgical decision-making. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 73-year-old man presented with constipation and abdominal pain. Colonoscopy revealed a circumferential

[Robot-Assisted Resection for Ascending Colon Cancer with a Tumor Thrombus in the Superior Mesenteric Vein after Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy-A Case of Report].

An 81-year-old woman visited our hospital for severe anemia and was diagnosed with ascending colon cancer with a tumor thrombus in the superior mesenteric vein(SMV). After 8 courses of mFOLFOX6+bevacizumab therapy followed by 7 courses of fluorouracil and leucovorin+bevacizumab therapy, the primary lesion and tumor thrombus were found to be shrinkage. Then we performed robot-assisted right hemicolectomy and resection of SMV involving the tumor thrombus. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 19. Histological findings revealed residual tumor thrombus in the SMV. The patient is currentl

Squamous cell carcinoma of ascending colon with pMMR/MSS showed a partial response to PD-1 blockade combined with chemotherapy: A case report.

Primary colon squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is extremely rare and associated with a poor prognosis. Moreover, there is no treatment guideline for this disease. Proficient mismatch repair/microsatellite-stable (pMMR/MSS) colorectal adenocarcinoma is refractory to immune monotherapy. Although the combination of immunotherapy with chemotherapy in pMMR/MSS colorectal cancer (CRC) is currently under investigation, the clinical activity of this approach in colorectal SCC remains unknown. In this article, we report the case of a pMMR/MSS CRC patient with ascending colon SCC who had high programmed ce

Necrotizing soft tissue infection of the thigh associated with retroperitoneal abscess in a patient with locally advanced ascending colon cancer: A case report.

Necrotizing soft tissue infection (NSTI) is a rare but rapidly progressing soft-tissue infection. Few reports of NSTI caused by colon cancer have been published. We present a rare case of NSTI of the thigh associated the retroperitoneal spread of ascending colon cancer. A 64-year-old man had noticed right hip pain since 3 months before admission, he felt pain in the right thigh which was reddening, and he had difficulty in walking. He was referred to Yokosuka general hospital Uwamachi. Anterolateral aspect of his right thigh was reddening and swelling. The patient was diagnosed with a psoas ab

Dieulafoy lesion in the ascending colon presenting with gastrointestinal bleeding and severe anemia complicated by a coexisting severe resistant chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.

Background. GI (gastrointestinal) bleeding can be due to a variety of etiologies ranging from being common like bleeding peptic ulcer disease or esophageal varices. One of the rarely documented causes is the Dieulafoy lesion which is known as an abnormally large ectatic artery that penetrates the gut wall, occasionally eroding through the mucosa causing massive bleeding. In addition to that, we refer to the uncommon presentation of Dieulafoy lesion itself as it is well known to be found in the stomach, esophagus, duodenum, and jejunum but not the ascending colon as in our case. The patient had

[A case of simultaneous hepatic metastases of ascending colon cancer responding completely to tegafur/uracil plus oral Leucovorin therapy after primary lesion resection].

An 81-year-old woman, who suffered from ascending colon cancer with liver metastases, underwent right hemicolectomy. She did not undergo liver resection due to her age and her family's decision, and was treated with UFT plus oral Leucovorin therapy. The metastases were remarkably reduced in the early phase and disappeared completely on SPIO-MRI 2 years 9 months later. Adverse effects of this therapy are relatively few, and it can serve as first-line chemotherapy for advanced colorectal cancer.

The influence of experimental Bacteroides fragilis infection on substance P and somatostatin-immunoreactive neural elements in the porcine ascending colon - a preliminary report.

The present study was aimed at disclosing the influence of Bacteroides fragilis (one of the most important bacterial agents causing colitis in children) experimental infection on the expression of substance P (SP) and somatostatin (SOM) in neurons and nerve fibres within the porcine ascending colon. Distinct differences in the distribution pattern of neural elements immunoreactive to the substances studied were observed between the experimental (Inflam) and control (Contr) pigs. In general, the number of SP-IR neurons and nerve terminals increased, while the expression of SOM decreased after B

G-CSF-producing Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma Adjacent to the Ascending Colon and in the Right Iliopsoas Muscle: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) is a soft tissue sarcoma, occurring most commonly on the lower extremities. We herein report a rare case of primary UPS adjacent to the ascending colon and in the right iliopsoas muscle. Computed tomography of the abdomen revealed large masses, and the patient experienced a high-grade fever, leukocytosis, elevated serum C-reactive protein level, and hematopoietic activation on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography. This inflammatory reaction was caused by granulocyte colony-stimulating factor secreted by tumor cells. Surgical resection w

Effect of Reducing Abdominal Compression during Prone CT Colonography on Ascending Colonic Rotation during Supine-to-Prone Positional Change.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of reduced abdominal compression in prone position on ascending colonic movement during supine-to-prone positional change during CT colonography (CTC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighteen consecutive patients who had undergone prone CTC scanning with cushion blocks placed under the chest and hip/thigh to reduce abdominal compression and had confirmed sessile polyps ≥ 6 mm in the well-distended, straight, mid-ascending colon, were included. Radial location along the ascending colonic luminal circumference (°) was measured for 24 polyps and 54 colonic teniae on su

A case of complete resolution of multiple diverticula in the ascending colon through frequent, long distance running in conjunction with the consumption of more vegetables.

Colonic diverticulosis is now a common global disease, but the treatment has conventionally been directed towards its associated complications, such as infection and bleeding, and the treatment of diverticulosis itself has rarely been discussed. This is a case of complete resolution (disappearance) of multiple diverticula in the ascending colon of a Japanese 58-year-old male patient who undertook a frequent, long distance running program for a period of about 8 months. The disappearance was confirmed by barium enema. The patient continued the running program thereafter, and the third barium en

Complete closure of a colo-duodenal fistula in a patient with advanced ascending colon cancer after pembrolizumab combined with radiation therapy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: A colo-duodenal fistula is a very rare complication of colon cancer that presents with not only severe clinical symptoms, but a poor prognosis due to locally advanced cancer. A novel immune checkpoint inhibitor for colon cancer patients provides a high objective response rate. Recently, radiation therapy combined with immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy has been reported to have a synergistic antitumor effect. A case of complete closure of a colo-duodenal fistula in a patient with locally advanced colon cancer after combined pembrolizumab and radiation therapy is reported. CASE PR
