A damaged skin forms a health hazard in flower-bulb growers as it enables higher permeation rates for pesticides than normal skin. Therefore, an investigation was performed into the skin condition of 103 bulb growers and 49 controls. Contact dermatitis of the hands was of the same order (11 and 10%) in both groups. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic pruritic dermatosis that requires individualized treatment. Recent studies have shown that low-dose oral treatment with cyclosporine A may be useful in more severe forms. We report our experience with two patients who had severe atopic dermatitis. Both had high IgE concentration and satisfied Hanifin and Rajka's diagnostic criteria for atopic dermatosis. We began oral treatment at a daily dosage of 5 mg/kg divided into two doses. Atopic dermatitis is no longer a constitutional illness that cannot be influenced. The discovery of IgE fixed to the cells of Langerhans changes the physiopathological concept of this illness. There must be a minutely careful search for all the possible etiologies before advising therapy or long-term treatment. Attention must be given to the role of foods, discovery of causal pneumoallergens and a systematic search for a contact allergen must be made. This systematic and scrupulous search also gives confidence to a patient who is discouraged by the development of the condition.

BACKGROUND: Although perioral dermatitis has been well described in young women, little has been reported about this condition in children.

Patients with mood depression have been found to have a higher prevalence of seborrheic dermatitis (SD), possibly related to their tendency to live indoors. The prevalence of outpatients with SD has now been found to be directly related to the number of gloomy days in the area. Since UV light might not be the only reason for the well-known improvement in SD in summer, an explanation possibly related to melatonin is envisaged.

2 groups of patients (1200 and 1500 respectively) were patch tested with different concentrations of perfume mix and fragrance raw materials.
