Perspectives of older adults with pre-frailty and frailty when engaging with an online nutrition educational resource: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Older adults with pre-frailty and frailty are vulnerable to malnutrition, yet often lack access to tailored, credible, and accessible nutrition education. Digital health tools offer a scalable solution, but little is known about how older adults with pre-frailty and frailty engage with them. This study explored the experiences of community-dwelling older adults with pre-frailty and frailty when engaging with an online nutrition educational resource to help people prevent and manage frailty. METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted with community-dwelling older adults (≥ 65 years

Motivating factors and possible barriers to participation in digital prevention courses of two statutory health insurance funds in Germany: a qualitative interview study.

BACKGROUND: Digital prevention courses offered by statutory health insurance funds in Germany represent a low-threshold opportunity to support health-promoting behaviors through pre-recorded, video-based programs focusing on exercise, nutrition, or stress management. However, little is known about insured individuals' motivations and barriers to participation. This study aimed to identify relevant motivating and obstructive factors for participation in digital prevention courses and to explore differences compared to on-site formats. METHODS: We conducted semi-structured telephone interviews

Evaluation of a collaboratively designed digital rehabilitation plan: end users' evaluating its potential for shared decision-making.

BACKGROUND: Through a partnership and collaborative design process involving technologists and healthcare professionals, a web platform featuring a digital rehabilitation plan was developed. This process tackles recognised challenges in information and communication technology for rehabilitation, such as fragmented data flows and low-quality user interfaces. The digital rehabilitation plan facilitates shared decision-making by allowing patients to customise their plan while providing healthcare professionals with the necessary access to support the patient's journey. This study assessed the ex

Digital cognitive behavioural therapy for depression and obesity after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy: a study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Young and middle-aged patients who simultaneously present with depression and obesity and who have undergone laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy still face significant difficulties accessing mental health services. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has been shown to be effective for young and middle-aged patients. However, given the reliance on professional therapists, long waiting times, high costs and inconvenience of traditional CBT for busy or remote populations, a digital form of CBT would be ideal for managing these patients. Digital cognitive behavioural therapy (DCBT) has the

Digital technology use for social cohesion among older adults in rural Myanmar during the civil war: barriers and coping strategies.

BACKGROUND: Population ageing in Myanmar is occurring amid prolonged political instability and civil war, exacerbating social isolation and vulnerabilities among older adults, particularly in rural areas. While digital technologies have the potential to support social cohesion, little is known about how older adults in conflict-affected rural Myanmar access and use these tools, the barriers they face, and the strategies they adopt to cope with digital exclusion. METHODS: This qualitative study was conducted in rural communities in Kayin State, southeastern Myanmar. Semi-structured in-depth in

The role of digitalization in health decisions: family and intergenerational perspective.

BACKGROUND: In a culture where health decisions are often made collectively rather than individually, how digitalization reshapes this process has not been sufficiently explored. The aim of this study is to reveal how family members experience digital health technologies in the context of family health decisions and how this experience is interpreted in terms of decision-making authority, trust and intergenerational interaction. METHOD: In this study, phenomenological design was used to reveal how individuals experience digital health applications in the context of family health decisions and

Breastfeeding Education Across the Perinatal Period: A Descriptive Exploratory Pre-Implementation Study.

BACKGROUND: Breastfeeding is the optimal infant feeding method; however, cessation rates remain high across many developed nations. Support for mothers can be improved through breastfeeding education that spans the entire perinatal period. Due to the number of healthcare providers involved, delivery of breastfeeding education must be consistent and tailored to individual needs. Digital innovations are a potential solution to enhance accessibility and consistency in breastfeeding education delivery. How to best implement these solutions in clinical settings is not yet known. Perceptions of resident doctors on how digital clinical decision support influences decisions on use of resources.

INTRODUCTION: There is a growing interest in the use of digital learning and clinical decision support (CDS) in medical education and clinical practice. However, until recently there has been little interest in the potential cost savings that could emerge from the use of digital CDS in clinical practice. This study attempted to fill this gap by asking frontline resident doctors by means of a questionnaire to what extent they value digital CDS resources as a way of saving costs. METHODS: We developed a questionnaire to examine the perceptions of frontline resident doctors on CDS use. Topics ex

Nurses' Ethical Reasoning About Digital Ethical Risks: A Vignette-Elicited Qualitative Study.

AIM: This qualitative study aimed to explore how nurses reason ethically about potential digital ethical risks arising from the routine use of digital systems in clinical practice and the strategies they propose to address these risks in response to vignette-based scenarios. BACKGROUND: Digital systems shape nursing documentation, monitoring, communication, education, and decision-making. Although they support care, digital ethical risks may arise when digital outputs are accepted without clinical verification, patients are not adequately informed, or data protection is weak. DESIGN: A vigne

Co-Creating Preconception Health Content for a Digital Resource for Women From Diverse Ethnic Backgrounds.

INTRODUCTION: Planning pregnancy and optimal health prior to pregnancy can significantly reduce pregnancy complications and poor maternal health outcomes. Women from culturally and racially marginalised groups experience more unintended pregnancies, increased preconception risk factors and adverse pregnancy outcomes, including maternal and infant mortality, compared to native born Australians. Improving health literacy through culturally relevant and accessible resources may improve preconception health. We have previously shown that women from migrant and refugee backgrounds would prefer rece

Digital mental health: innovations in assessment and intervention.

Depression and anxiety together are ranked among the leading causes of disability, affecting hundreds of millions of individuals worldwide (GBD 2019 Mental Disorders Collaborators, 2022). Yet, psychiatric care faces persistent structural barriers: limited specialist availability, geographic inequities, diagnostic subjectivity, and the stigma that deters help-seeking behaviors (Patel et al., 2018). Digital technologies, including mobile health platforms, internet-delivered interventions, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven analytic tools, are beginning to address these constraints by extend

Effectiveness of Digital Health Interventions for Improving Antiretroviral Therapy Outcomes in People With HIV: Meta-Analysis and Trial Sequential Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: Digital health interventions (DHIs) are increasingly used to support antiretroviral therapy (ART) management among people living with HIV. However, existing systematic reviews have largely focused on single intervention types or limited outcomes, and few have integrated multiple DHI modalities across both behavioral and clinical end points. Additionally, previous evidence has rarely incorporated analytical approaches, such as prediction intervals (PIs) or trial sequential analysis (TSA), leaving uncertainty regarding the robustness and generalizability of findings. OBJECTIVE: This
