The impact of information technology applications on the quality of life of disabled older adults in nursing homes in China: a qualitative study.

OBJECTIVE: China's smart aging policy system has been evolving to become more comprehensive, continuously promoting the application of information technology in nursing homes. This study explores the adaptation process and experiences of disabled older adults with the use of information technology in nursing homes from four perspectives: physiological, psychological, social, and environmental, and examines its impact on their quality of life. METHODS: An interpretative phenomenological approach was adopted, with purposive sampling used to recruit participants. Semi-structured interviews were

Online Survey of Digital Reading by Adults with Low Vision.

SIGNIFICANCE: Access to digital text is increasingly widespread, but its impact on low-vision reading is not well understood. PURPOSE: We conducted an online survey of people with low vision to determine what assistive technologies they use for visual reading, their preferred text characteristics, and the time they devote to reading digital and hard-copy text. METHODS: One hundred thirty-three low-vision participants completed an online survey. Participants reported the nature and history of their low vision, their usage of different assistive technologies, and time devoted to five visual re

Role of Technology in Promoting Heart Healthy Behavior Change to Increase Equity in Optimal Cardiovascular Health: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.

Populations most affected by cardiovascular health disparities, including underrepresented populations with lower socioeconomic status, people with disabilities, and those living in underserved rural communities, are disproportionately exposed to adverse social determinants of health. Specifically, economic instability and suboptimal living conditions within the neighborhood and built environment directly determine access to resources and opportunities for healthful behaviors. In this scientific statement, we examined the technology-enabled interventions that address cardiovascular health beha

Recommendations for the Design and Delivery of Transitions-Focused Digital Health Interventions: Rapid Review.

BACKGROUND: Older adults experience a high risk of adverse events during hospital-to-home transitions. Implementation barriers have prevented widespread clinical uptake of the various digital health technologies that aim to support hospital-to-home transitions. OBJECTIVE: To guide the development of a digital health intervention to support transitions from hospital to home (the Digital Bridge intervention), the specific objectives of this review were to describe the various roles and functions of health care providers supporting hospital-to-home transitions for older adults, allowing future t

[Assistance and breakthrough of digitalization and intelligent digitalization in implant restoration of edentulous jaws].

Digital and intelligent digital technologies can help optimize the clinical workflow of edentulous jaw implant restoration, significantly improving precision, predictability, and efficiency throughout all stages of treatment. In the preoperative phase, by acquiring the patient's digital information model and integrating data with the assistance of an artificial intelligence-driven planning system, personalized design of implant positions and prosthesis morphologies can be achieved, thereby realizing accurate functional and aesthetic matching. During the surgical procedure, the adoption of stat

The Digital Incidentaloma Appreciating and Managing the Hazards of Continuous Digital Monitoring.

Continuous digital health technologies are transforming diagnostic medicine by enabling repeated physiological surveillance outside traditional clinical settings. Smartwatches, wearable sensors, continuous glucose monitors, and other consumer-facing technologies can identify abnormalities in asymptomatic individuals with low pre-test probability of disease. We describe the 'digital incidentaloma' as an unsolicited or unexpected abnormality detected through consumer-facing digital surveillance, outside a specific clinical diagnostic question, for which the clinical significance or appropriate d

Functional Reconstruction of Mandibular Segment Defects With Individual Preformed Reconstruction Plate and Computed Tomographic Angiography-Aided Iliac Crest Flap.

PURPOSE: With the development of imaging technology and computer-assisted surgery in oral and maxillofacial surgery, digital technology is widely used in vascularized bone flap grafts for mandibular reconstruction. The aim of this study was to use digital technology throughout the treatment process to show that digital techniques can provide a reliable and accurate match between the mandible and the iliac crest flap to achieve functional reconstruction of mandibular segment defects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty patients underwent 3-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT), mirroring technol…

Differences in Performance on Developmental Tasks in Young Children Across Digital and Paper-Based Modalities: A Feasibility Trial.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether use of digital-based screening is a feasible approach to monitoring child development, it is necessary to assess young children's abilities to interface with touch screen technology. The primary objectives of this exploratory feasibility study with a randomized experimental design were to determine (1) whether young children respond differently to developmental tasks on paper versus tablet device and (2) whether responses to items presented digitally differed according to hours of weekly exposure to touch screen technology in the home. METHODS: Eighty children

Digital health use in latent tuberculosis infection care: A systematic review.

PURPOSE: With one-quarter of the world's population estimated to have latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), it is important that the drop-outs from the LTBI cascade of care are minimized. Digital health technology could play an important role in case detection and treatment adherence. This study aims to evaluate the use and impact of digital health technology in LTBI care. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted on six electronic databases from database inception until May 31st 2021. The Hidden Everyday-Life Burden of Pediatric Type 1 Diabetes: A Household Implementation Framework for Modern Diabetes Technology and Family Care.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Frameworks that classify the financial burdens of managing pediatric type 1 diabetes (T1D) primarily focus on measurable material hardship, affordability, and cost-related distress and therefore do not sufficiently detail the household-level resources that care requires from families. This study is a conceptual narrative review that aims to integrate the missing elements into a new three-level burden model, thereby linking the costs visible in clinical care, the household implementation burden borne by families, and the lived everyday experience of the child-parent-family tr

Tool for Digital Inclusion in Italian Schools: The Use of Self-Assessment Framework from ENTELIS Project.

The use of technology in education has the potential to create more inclusive environments for all students, including those with disabilities. In Italy, the Ministry of Education has recognized the importance of digital literacy in schools and has issued several documents outlining the steps necessary to build a more inclusive educational system. However, in order to achieve these goals, it is important to assess the current situation and identify areas for improvement. The Entelis Self-assessment framework, particularly the Italian short version, can be used as a tool to help schools assess

The role of digital health in respiratory diseases management: a narrative review of recent literature.

This review provides a detailed overview of how digital health can be utilized in the management of Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). ILD encompasses a diverse range of lung disorders characterized by inflammation and scarring of lung tissue, leading to restrictive lung physiology and impaired gas exchange, with symptoms including progressive dyspnoea, cough, and hypoxia. COPD which ranks as the third leading cause of death globally, is characterized by chronic lung inflammation causing irreversible airflow obstruction, recurrent exacerbations.

SecureHealthKey+: Integrating Explainable TinyML Anomaly Detection Into Lightweight Authentication Protocols in IoT-Enabled Healthcare Systems.

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) enable real-time, remote, and continuous patient monitoring but remain vulnerable to cyber-physical attacks, including unauthorized device access, replay, man-in-the-middle (MITM), and slow-rate denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. Existing lightweight authentication protocols are computationally suitable for resource-constrained wearable sensors but may not detect behavioral anomalies occurring during otherwise valid cryptographic handshakes. This study presents SecureHealthKey+, a hybrid security framework that extends
