BACKGROUND/AIMS: The incidence of biliary tract cancer development is high among patients with pancreaticobiliary maljunction. However, there have been no reports published evaluating the incidence of development of biliary tract cancers in pancreaticobiliary maljunction based on the morphology of the common channel at the junction of the bile and pancreatic ducts. We evaluated between types of common channel and development of biliary tract cancers in pancreaticobiliary maljunction.

A pneumocele refers to an aerated sinus with either focal or generalized thinning of the bony sinus wall. Although the pathogenesis of a pneumocele is not yet known, it is presumed that increased intrasinusal pressure, due to a one-way valve between the nasal cavity and the affected sinus, is responsible for this condition. We herein present a patient with lipomatosis of the ileum including diverticulosis and volvulus. The patient presented with abdominal pain and vomiting. Preoperatively, we diagnosed lipomatosis with volvulus of the ileum based on the findings of abdominal ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT). During surgery, the dilated ileum had rotated 720 degrees counterclockwise, and was found to contain lipomatosis and multiple diverticula. We presented MR cholangiography (MRC) of congenital biliary malformations in infancy. MRC was obtained during induced sleeping. In two cases of congenital dilation of bile duct, MRC revealed cystic or spindle dilatation of intra- and extra hepatic bile ducts. In one biliary atresia, MRC revealed the serpentine gall bladder and cystic dilatation of the extrahepatic bile duct without connection to the dilated hilar bile duct. MR cholangiography, which can be obtained noninvasively, is useful for the diagnosis and the preoperative assessment of congenital biliary malformations in infancy.

OBJECTIVE: Six cases of enlarged utricle are described, with special reference to the clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects.
METHODS/RESULTS: Utricular enlargement was suspected or confirmed radiologically in 5 cases and was confirmed by endoscopy in 5 cases. No patient was submitted to surgery. One patient underwent endoscopic removal of a utricular calculus. Prolonged medical treatment was required to maintain 5 patients free from infection. Good results were observed in 5 cases 1-9 years following diagnosis.

OBJECTIVE: Ectasia of the seminiferous tubules at the level of the mediastinum is a recently recognized benign condition of the testicles. Although it may have typical sonographic features, the condition can at times be difficult to distinguish from tumors on the basis of sonography. We describe the sonographic and MR appearance of this condition in seven men in whom we were able to distinguish tubular ectasia from tumors of the testicles on the basis of the imaging findings.

Multiple vascular anomalies in a 22-year-old patient who had signs and symptoms of vestibulocochlear dysfunction are reported. Angiography revealed a fenestration of the proximal segment of the left anterior cerebral artery, an ectasia of the left anterior and posterior cerebral arteries, and a persistence of the right trigeminal artery. The rarity of the association is documented, and the clinical significance is discussed.

Three siblings with congenital dilatation of the intrahepatic bile ducts (Caroli's disease) are presented. Bile duct pathology was associated with congenital hepatic fibrosis and polycystic renal disease in all three patients.
