We report colonoscopic features of an intussuscepted Meckel's diverticulum, presenting with hematochezia. A 35-year-old woman presented to the emergency room with acute onset, transient, sharp, severe epigastric pain that began 6 h earlier. Colonoscopy revealed a reddish, soft, fist-sized polypoid lesion in the terminal ileum. The lesion was misinterpreted as a hematoma by an inexperienced endoscopist. A urethral diverticulum in a female arises from the wall of the urethra and consists mainly of fibrous tissue lined with epithelium. It is uncommon, and usually presents between decades 3 and 5. Most patients present with non-specific, refractory, lower urinary tract symptoms, unrelated to the diverticulum size or number. The diverticulum may also present as a mass at the introitus. We report a case of urethral diverticulum in a female child that presented as an introital mass.

We present an incidental finding of an appendiceal diverticulum during a sonographic examination of a 4-year-old child with acute appendicitis. Urethral diverticulum in the female is an acquired lesion following infection of the para-urethral glands. Its symptoms are often nonspecific and only by increased awareness of this condition can delay in diagnosis be avoided. While diverticulosis of the colon is a relatively common disease, a solitary giant diverticulum (GD) of the sigmoid is rare. Although there exist some theories about the formation of a GD, none is really conclusive. Symptoms are similar to diverticular disease, and diagnosis is easy with the aid of radiology. Early surgical treatment is necessary since the complication rate is high (19%).
