OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the correlation between the routine diagnostic tests for house dust mite (HDM) sensitization in Chinese allergic rhinitis (AR) patients, including the skin prick test (SPT), serum HDM-specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) and nasal smear eosinophilia.

In miners anthracosilicosis is caused by chronic exposure to coal dust and is characterized by progressive development of the inflammatory process, the expressed disorders of lipid metabolism, and immunodeficiency. In the experiment we revealed the stages of anthracosilicosis development according to which adequate measures of prevention and correction of the disorders caused by long exposure of an organism to coal dust are recommended.

A low-cost, high throughput bioanalytical screening method was developed for monitoring cis/trans-permethrin in dust and soil samples. The method consisted of a simple sample preparation procedure [sonication with dichloromethane followed by a solvent exchange into methanol:water (1:1)] with bioanalytical detection using a magnetic particle enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Quantitative recoveries (83-126%) of cis/trans-permethrin were obtained for spiked soil and dust samples. Five methods of sampling lead-contaminated dust on carpets were evaluated and compared in 33 New Jersey homes of children with elevated blood lead levels. The five sampling methods were (1) wipe, (2) adhesive label, (3) C18 sheet, (4) vacuum, and (5) hand rinse. Samples were collected side by side on the same carpets within the homes. A cross-sectional study was carried out to evaluate lung function and the prevalence of work-related symptoms in workers of a potato processing plant located in Lublin region (eastern Poland). The study group comprised 61 workers employed in 2 departments. Pulmonary diseases caused by dust occupy a leading place in occupational morbidity structure. Those diseases inspire much attention due to their high prevalence, especially in ecologically hazardous regions where the workers are under "double exposure". Upper respiratory tract diseases serve as a trigger for all respiratory disorders in workers exposed to dust. Early diagnosis of respiratory disorders includes history, clinical data, X-ray examination and assessment of pulmonary ventilation and together with concurrent cardiovascular diagnosis is necessary for well-justified prophylaxis.

Abstract- Sensitisation to the house dust mite, Dermatophagoides farinae, was demonstrated by skin testing and allergen-specific IgG determination in 15 out of 20 dogs in which a definitive diagnosis of sarcoptic mange was made following recovery of Sarcoptes scabiei mites on skin scrapings. After therapy, no dogs exhibited clinical signs of atopic dermatitis. The effects of jute, ramee, flax dusts on alveolar macrophage (AM) were observed by cell culture. The results indicated that AM could be damaged by all of the three kinds of dusts. The viability was decreased. The activity of lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) and acid phosphatase (AcP) in the culture supernatant was increased. The morphology of AM was damaged.
