BACKGROUND: Because of their rarity, chemical burns of rectum and colon have been poorly studied. This clinical report studies the epidemiologic, diagnostic, and therapeutic features of rectal and colonic burns after enema with caustics.
METHODS: This is a retrospective clinical report of a personal series of 21 patients admitted in our hospital from January 1990 to January 2000 for an acute chemical colitis after enema.

PURPOSE: Through this work we are going to demonstrate the interest and the contribution of the percutaneous nephrostomy in obstructive anuria and in pyonephrosis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: It is a retrospective study concerning 42 cases. The average age of the patients is 50 years (19-80 years). The sex-ratio is 26 men for 16 women. The nephrostomy was realized in first intention or after failure of ascent stent on 33 patients for an obstructive anuria and nine patients for a pyonephrosis.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome denotes a group of inherited connective tissue diseases comprising nine types. Type IV Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is the most life-threatening form. It is characterized by a type III collagen deficiency resulting in arterial fragility and death from vascular rupture or bowel perforation. This disease involves a col 3A1 gene mutation. In some emergency situations of colo-rectal pathology, especially those characterized by hemorrhaging, the endoscopy has acquired, with the passing of years, a fundamental role both from the diagnostic and the therapeutic point of view. In no more than 25% of the lower intestinal tract hemorrhages, the clinical picture does have the signs of an emergency. BACKGROUND: Patients may present with signs and symptoms of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (RAA) but actually have other diseases mimicking RAA. The outcome of these patients has not been reported.
METHODS: During the past 10 years, 16 patients presumed to have RAAs were found at operation to have other diseases accounting for the symptoms. Fifteen patients (94%) had abdominal pain, 9 (56%) had a pulsatile abdominal mass, and 7 (44%) were hypotensive on presentation.

The authors present a prospective study of 159 diagnostic laparoscopy performed in patients about whom doubts existed about the actual visceral involvement after initial clinical and laboratory examination by the Surgical Staff on duty.
