OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on tissue lesions in an experimental model of acute pancreatitis induced by pancreatic duct ligation.
ANIMALS: Forty-eight adult female Wistar rats were randomized into two groups (n=24): control group and hyperbaric oxygen therapy group.
INTERVENTION: The second group was treated with a two-hour daily session of hyperbaric oxygen therapy at 2.5 ATA started 6 hours after pancreatic duct ligation.

In an attempt to associate the clinical neurological syndromes with the neuropathological features of canine distemper (CD), 19 spontaneous cases with neurological involvement were examined, before and after euthanasia. Seventeen dogs were less than one year of age and all except two (89.4%) were unvaccinated against CD. Various extraneural signs associated with CD encephalomyelitis (CDE) were seen in 15 dogs. The present work investigated the presence of Trypanosoma vivax in semen and reproductive tissues of experimentally infected cattle and evaluated changes in seminal parameters. Two groups of cattle were established: T01 - experimentally infected with T. vivax (n = 8) and T02 - not experimentally infected with T. vivax (n = 8). After infection, blood (every seven days until 182 days post-infection - DPI), semen (7, 14, 35, 56, 70, 120 and 182 DPI) and reproductive tissue (after euthanasia, 182 DPI) were collected to search for T. vivax using different techniques, including PCR, Woo and Brener.

PURPOSE: The hemorrhagic syndrome is a major cause of morbidity and mortality associated with the acute radiation syndrome (ARS). We previously characterized the dose-response relationship for total body irradiation (TBI)-induced ARS in the New Zealand White (NZW) rabbit. Thrombocytopenia, hemorrhage, and anemia were strongly associated with morbidity/mortality during the first three weeks post-TBI. The objective of the current study was to further characterize the natural history of thrombocytopenia, hemostatic dysfunction and hemorrhage in the rabbit model at a TBI dose range to induce ARS.
