The technique for percutaneous in situ fixation of chronic slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is described. It is based on the anatomy of the slip. The technique utilizes a cannulated screw, which obviates the need for an incision and allows variation of the starting point of the screw depending on the degree of slippage.

PURPOSE: The purposes of this study are (1) to measure the ischiofemoral distance (IFD) in nondiseased hips and (2) to reveal patient demographic and anatomical factors associated with IFD.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, we identified patients who had unilateral osteonecrosis of the femoral head on computed tomography (CT) scan from November 2005 to July 2018 and assessed the unaffected contralateral hips of the patients. Among the contralateral hips, we excluded hips with hip pain, incomplete or poor-quality CT image, incomplete medical record, degenerative arthritis of the hip, or pr

63 slipped capital femoral epiphysis were treated either by a femoral neck osteotomy or by an intertrochanteric osteotomy. In almost all cases a normal anatomical relationship of the proximal capital femoral epiphysis to the neck of the femur was achieved. At an average follow-up of 10 years (2 to 19 years) 90% were rated good to excellent clinically. In 33 hips with a follow-up period of more than 10 years mild degenerative arthritis was present in 36%. Slipping of 60 degrees or less is best treated by an intertrochanteric osteotomy to avoid the higher complication rate in the femoral neck os

Osteotomies of the proximal femur for hip joint conditions are normally done at the intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric level. Intra-articular osteotomies would be more direct and therefore allow a more powerful correction with no or very little undesired side correction. However, concerns about the risk of vascular damage and osteonecrosis of the femoral head have so far basically excluded this technique from practical use. Based on detailed knowledge of the vascular anatomy of the proximal femur, an approach to safely dislocate the femoral head has been described and successfully performed.

Large lytic lesions, relatively asymptomatic, involving the femoral neck and the base of the head are described in two patients suffering from a classical seropositive rheumatoid arthritis. Histological examination failed to reveal signs of malignancy, infection or pigmented villonodular synovitis. There were no rheumatoid nodules but a chronic hypertrophic villous synovitis was found. Rheumatoid synovium may invade the superior extremity of the femur; this fact is important in the differential diagnosis of destructive lesions of the femoral neck in RA.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the biomechanical characteristics of non-anatomical reduction and different screw positions on the stability of Pauwels type III femoral neck fractures.
METHODS: Three-dimensional finite element models of femoral neck fractures were constructed using CT images. Four types of internal fixation methods were simulated, including biplane double-supported screw fixation (BDSF), three inverted triangular parallel cannulated screws (3CS), new parallel cannulated screws with posterior screws moving down (New 3CS), and two parallel cannulated screws (2CS). von

The selection of implants for fixing unstable femoral neck fractures (FNF) remains contentious. This study employs finite element analysis to examine the biomechanics of treating Pauwels type III femoral neck fractures using cannulated compression screws (3CS), biplane double-supported screw fixation (BDSF), and the femoral neck system (FNS). A three-dimensional model of the proximal femur was developed using computed tomography scans. Fracture models of the femoral neck were created with 3CS, BDSF, and FNS fixations. Von Mises stress on the proximal femur, fracture ends, internal fixators, an

Femoral neck stress fracture (FNSF) is an uncommon but potentially serious orthopaedic problem. This is a case report on missed femoral neck stress fracture in a 62-year-old female who was initially treated as early-onset coxarthrosis. She later presented to us with a displaced intra-capsular neck of left femur fracture and underwent total hip replacement. This case illustrates that causes other than osteoarthritis should be taken into consideration in patients presenting with anterior hip pain where symptoms are disproportionate to clinical and radiological findings. Since 1983 we have treated 19 cases of medial neck of femur fracture by using the dynamic hip screw. A follow-up of these patients has shown bad result in 12 cases. We have abandoned the indications for implantation of DHS.

AIM: To investigate the three-dimensional anatomy and shape of the proximal femur, comparing patients with secondary osteoarthritis (OA) due to mild developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and primary hip OA.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective radiographic computed tomography (CT)-based study investigated proximal femoral anatomy in a consecutive series of 84 patients with secondary hip OA due to mild DDH (Crowe type I&II/Hartofilakidis A) compared to 84 patients with primary hip OA, matched for gender, age at surgery, and body mass index.
RESULTS: Men with DDH showed higher neck sha

A long-term follow-up of bilateral femoral neck fracture is presented. The patient sustained the injury in a road accident at the age of five. Both fractures were Delbet type III. Three days after the injury, open reduction and internal fixation were performed. A hip spica cast was applied for 8 weeks. Follow-up radiographs show uneventful healing, with no avascular necrosis of the femoral head. The initial shortening of the right proximal femur persisted. The left femur shows extensive remodeling of the femoral head toward valgus. The patient is painless and currently does some sports.

BACKGROUND: Whether artificial bone provides comparable outcomes to autogenous bone has not been determined for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). This study was conducted to compare the clinical outcomes of autogenous and artificial bone grafting (demineralized bone matrix/calcium sulfate [DBM/CaS]) through a modified lightbulb technique by percutaneous femoral neck-head fenestration for treating precollapse ONFH.
METHODS: A total of 73 Association Research Circulation Osseous Stage Ⅱ ONFH patients (81 hips) who had a mean follow-up of 61 months (range, 52 to 74) were included in this

OBJECTIVE: To explore the related factors of femoral stem anteversion (FSA) after total hip arthroplasty (THA), so as to provide reference for clinical design of FSA before operation and reduce the risk of hip dislocation after arthroplasty.
METHODS: Ninty-three patients (103 hips) who underwent THA between October 2021 and September 2022 and met the selection criteria were selected as the study subjects. Among them, there were 48 males and 45 females with an average age of 58.5 years (range, 25-88 years). Body mass index was 18.00-37.84 kg/m 2, with an average of 24.92 kg/m 2. There were 51

The presence of anterior hip dislocation along with contralateral posterior hip dislocation in the absence of other major traumas is a distinctly rare injury pattern. We report such a case, along with a review of previous cases. A 40-year-old male patient after motorcycle skidding had posterior dislocation of the left hip and anterior dislocation of the right one without other associated injuries. The patient underwent successful closed reduction of both hips. The clinical course and follow-up assessment of the patient was uneventful.

The dysplastic acetabulum develops to normal shape only if the head of the femur is in central position in the articualr cavity correct according to biomechanics of the hip joint. Anterior rotation of the neck of the femur should be reduced operatively to neutral position as soon as possible if joint congruity cannot be achieved by conservative treatment. The indication for an intertrochanteric derotation osteotomy is made in cases demonstrating a roof inclination less than 30 degrees in children age 1 1/2 to three. After the third year of age, the mutual growth-stimulating effect of the artic
