Idiopathic granulomatous hypophysitis is a rare inflammatory disease of the pituitary gland that can closely mimic a pituitary adenoma clinicoradiologically. We report an 18-year-old Japanese male with a lack of secondary sex characterization and growth failure caused by a rare association between Rathke's cyst and hypophysitis. He was referred to us because of delayed secondary sex characterization. The girls and boys (the ethnic tofs) residing in the village of Alykdjer of Nijneudinsky district of Irkutsk oblast have been examined. The Irkutsk girls and boys (the Caucasians) made the comparison groups. In tof boys the activation of hypophyseal-thyroid system and activity increase of lipoprotein spectrum of blood serum was established. Furthermore, in the tof adolescents the level of liposoluble vitamin alpha-tocopherol is increased as compared with the Caucasians adolescents.

Apitherapy (Venom of bees and apiculture products) was included into combined treatment of 93 in-patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Apitherapy had a beneficial effect on the organism of tuberculosis patients, manifested by enhancement of the treatment effectiveness and normalization of indices of endocrine system. It is recommended that the instruction on apitoxinotherapy be amended, in particular, by substantially supplementing the paragraph with indications and contraindications for giving it in active tuberculosis.

Forty-three ovulation cycles stimulated with human menopausal gonadotropin were examined in 31 patients with hypogonadotropic amenorrhea. Peripheral blood estradiol and luteinizing hormone were radioimmunoassayed. The findings indicate the possibility of recovery of adenohypophyseal gonadotropin autosecretion in the presence of human menopausal gonadotropin administration.

The hormonal function of the hypophysis and thyroid (TTG, T3, T4) and its dependence on hepatobiliary function, examined by hepatobiliscintigraphy, were studied by radioimmunoassay in 71 patients with chronic opisthorchiasis and in 18 chronic carriers of Salmonella typhi. in both groups. The decrease of T3 and T4 in the presence of normal TTG level was found. The imbalance of thyroid hormones activity is likely to be associated with hepatobiliary dysfunction. In chronic opisthorchiasis the hormonal disturbance may be one of the factors favouring the S. typhi carriership.

A diagnostic value of immunoradiometric TSH assay in the evaluation of the function of hypothalamo-hypophyseal-thyroid axis was investigated in this paper.
