Impact of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Safety Program for Perinatal Care.

BACKGROUND: The Safety Program for Perinatal Care (SPPC) seeks to improve safety on labor and delivery (L&D) units through three mutually reinforcing components: (1) fostering a culture of teamwork and communication, (2) applying safety science principles to care processes; and (3) in situ simulation. The objective of this study was to describe the SPPC implementation experience and evaluate the short-term impact on unit patient safety culture, processes, and adverse events. METHODS: We supported SPPC implementation by L&D units with a program toolkit, trainings, and technical assistance. We

Community-Based Health-Social Partnership Programme (C-HSPP) for enhancing self-care management among older adults: protocol for a hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial.

BACKGROUND: The global ageing population imposes increasing demands on healthcare and social systems. Integrating the health and social service sectors has been proposed as a preferred solution to support healthy ageing, yet implementation in real settings remains challenging. Using an implementation science framework, this protocol outlines a Type-2 hybrid effectiveness-implementation design to adopt localized strategies for a Community-Based Health-Social Partnership Programme (C-HSPP) and test its effectiveness in enhancing self-care management among older adults in the community. METHODS:…

The Occupational Health and Safety of Sign Language Interpreters Working Remotely During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

INTRODUCTION: Rates of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine are lower in rural counties than in urban areas. The objective of the minigrants evaluation was to assess HPV vaccination uptake, factors related to implementation success, and barriers to implementation. METHODS: We conducted a concurrent, mixed-methods evaluation guided by the RE-AIM (Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance) and CFIR (Consolidated Framework for Implementation Science) frameworks. Four health departments received funding, a toolkit with implementation strategies, and monthly technical assistanc…

Supporting teams to optimize function and independence in Veterans: a multi-study program and mixed methods protocol.

BACKGROUND: Successful implementation of new clinical programs depends on effectively establishing, reorganizing, or enhancing team structures and processes to coordinate the work of individuals who are interdependent in their tasks, manage relationships, and share responsibility for outcomes. However, a one-size-fits-all approach is rarely effective. In partnership with VA national clinical leaders and local clinical champions, the Optimizing Function and Independence VA Quality Enhancement Research Initiative program (Function QUERI) will evaluate efforts to implement team-based clinical pro

Scoping review protocol: a mobile health solution for the management of stress among health science students at rural universities in South Africa.

Stress is prevalent among health science students, particularly in rural settings where access to mental health resources is limited. Mobile health (mHealth) interventions offer a promising avenue for providing accessible support for stress management. This scoping review aims to identify existing mHealth interventions, evaluate their feasibility and acceptability, and explore the specific needs of students within these contexts. This scoping review will be conducted using the Arksey and O'Malley framework, a structured approach that consists of six stages: identifying the research question, s

Bridging science and policy in the Global South: the Colombo Framework for Institutionalizing Science Advice.

The COVID-19 pandemic - and the inconsistent government responses it revealed - has made the institutionalisation of robust Science Advice to Policymakers (SAP) an urgent imperative. Barring exceptions such as initiatives by the International Network for Governmental Science Advice, very few training programmes aim to develop capacity of policy makers, especially in the Global South. In response to these needs, the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka and the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA), conducted a project titled Institutionalising Science Advice to

Citizen science approaches in the development of post-stroke physical activity interventions: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Stroke is a major cause of disability globally, with high recurrence rates despite the implementation of secondary prevention strategies. Promoting physical activity and reducing sedentary behaviour are critical to mitigate these risks. Collaborative research approaches, including citizen science, offer promising methods for developing more effective and sustainable interventions by leveraging patient insights and lived experiences across different research stages. OBJECTIVES: This scoping review explored the application of citizen science approaches in developing interventions ta

Applying behaviour change science to change motivational interaction in physical activity and sports professionals: stepwise development and acceptability pre-test of the MotiStyleSport intervention.

BACKGROUND: Physical activity (PA) counselling and sports coaching are more effective when professionals use self-determination theory-based need-supportive interaction. Existing interventions generally involve information provision and practical exercise, and show modest, short-term effects. Behaviour change science has rarely been incorporated, despite its potential to support sustainable change. AIMS: This study systematically applies behaviour change science to develop an intervention to train professionals in motivational interaction behaviours. METHODS: A four-step mixed-methods design

Chance or Strategy? Assessing the Unanticipated Policy Window for Active Transportation During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Systematic Review.

UNLABELLED: Physical activity (PA) policy is essential for promoting population-level PA by coordinating efforts across various sectors. Global crises like the COVID-19 pandemic can open policy windows, enabling rapid implementation of innovative policies. This study examined how policy windows shaped active transportation (AT) policies during the pandemic, resulting in infrastructural changes. METHODS: A systematic review using PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest-Coronavirus Research Database, Web of Science, WHO COVID-19 Research Database, PsycInfo, and SPORTDiscus conducted to characterize AT policy

Hepatitis C virus testing perspectives among primary care physicians in four large primary care settings.

BACKGROUND: In 1998, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published Recommendations for Prevention and Control of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Infection and HCV-Related Chronic Disease, recommending HCV testing for populations most likely to be infected with HCV. However, the implementation of risk-based screening has not been widely adopted in health care settings, and 45% to 85% of infected U.S. adults remain unidentified. OBJECTIVES: To develop a better understanding of why CDC's 1998 recommendations have had limited success in identifying persons with HCV infection and provide
