A reactant volume self-controlled micro-device was presented and applied to the flow injection chemiluminescence (CL) for determination of cyanide in whole blood. A mini distiller was fabricated for cyanide extraction from the blood samples with the extraction efficiencies of cyanide > or = 98%. A fluidic control platform with air driving was fabricated. The described system showed the features of easy fabrication, undiluted sample injection, safe analysis operation, and suitability for automatic cyanide analysis. OBJECTIVE: To establish neutral red uptake test of 3T3 in vitro to detect phototoxicity of chemicals and study the in vitro 3T3 NUR as an alternative method instead of animal skin phototoxicity test.
METHODS: Using incubated Balb/c3T3 cells to establish the optimal conditions of reaction system.
RESULTS: The concentration of neutral red, the incubate time, pH and the density of cells were the factors effecting test results.
CONCLUSION: It is suggested that in vitro 3T3 neutral red uptake test can be used as an alternative instead of animals phototoxicity test.

Two simple, rapid and sensitive sensors for the assay of dopamine hydrochloride have been developed. The methods are based upon the formation of the membrane sensors 12-crown-4-phosphotungestic acid (crown ether-PTA)-dopamine and 12-crown-4-tetraphenylborate (crown ether-TPB)-dopamine as neutral carriers. An account of studies in our group over 30 years is presented, with highlights taken from events that began with our plans for medium ring synthesis, but were soon diverted to organophosphorus chemistry, and that eventually resulted in the investigation of sulfur ylide ring expansions, thiocarbonyl chemistry, azomethine ylides, organotin and organoboron methodology, and control of relative and absolute configuration.

Elimination of PCR buffer components and alkali metal cations (i.e., Na+, K+) is of critical importance to allow for accurate mass measurements of PCR products for genotyping and sequencing applications. Separations of basic drug enantiomers by capillary electrophoresis (CE) using ovoglycoprotein (OGCHI) as a chiral selector are described. The effects of running buffer pH and 2-propanol content on the migration times and resolution of basic drug enantiomers were examined using a linear polyacrylamide-coated capillary. The influence of reagents interactions with V2O5 catalyst on its activity in the reaction of SO2 oxidation has been investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) method. It was found that the deactivation of V2O5 is caused by the diminishing of the number of adsorption centers able to interact with reagent molecules and with the creation of elements of the VOSO4 phase.

A method for the quantitative analysis of colistin sulfate by capillary zone electrophoresis is described. Since colistin components have five free amino groups, they tend to adsorb onto the capillary wall and cause peak tailing. It was found that triethanolamine (TEA)-phosphate buffer at pH 2.5 was useful to reduce such adsorption. Methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (M-beta-CD) and 2-propanol (IPA) were found necessary for selectivity enhancement. A method is described for the identification of a mixture of carbendazim and linuron. It is based on adsorptive stripping voltammetry at a carbon fiber ultramicroelectrode. Conditions for the determination of carbendazim in a mixture were optimized and the method was applied to soil samples. It was compared to HPLC with spectrophotometric detection, where similar results were obtained.

The ability of capillary zone electrophoresis in the development of analytical methods devoted to the quality control of the thiol drug penicillamine is shown. The supercritical fluid extraction behaviors of hyoscyamine and scopolamine were investigated and found to be highly dependent upon the chemical nature of the compounds. Free bases of hyoscyamine and scopolamine were freely soluble in supercritical CO2 with increasing temperature and pressure; however, the salts of these alkaloids were not soluble under any experimental conditions. It was found that alkaline modifiers such as methanol basified with diethylamine could enhance the solubilities and extraction yields of these alkaloids from plant matrices as compared to other modifiers.

Capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) in quartz tubes is often being used for the separation and characterization of humic acids (HA). A method was found to follow adsorption (and kinetics) of humic acids on a fused-silica capillary wall. It was shown that the adsorption of humic acids on an uncoated capillary wall is high. The effect on sorption of additives to the background electrolyte (BGE) was studied.
