[Familial benign chronic pemphigus (Hailey-Hailey disease): successful treatment with carbon dioxide laser].

Hailey-Hailey disease is a rare, autosomal dominantly inherited genodermatosis, which manifests with recurrent intraepidermal blistering and erythematous hyperkeratotic patches in intertriginous areas. Conventional therapeutic approaches include topical and systemic steroids, antibiotic agents, as well as oral retinoids. Alternative treatments include surgical interventions such as excision, dermabrasion and laser ablation. A 56-year-old woman presented with 15-year history of severe therapy-resistant Hailey-Hailey disease. We performed laser ablation with carbon dioxide laser under general an

Granuloma faciale of the scalp.

Granuloma faciale (GF) is an uncommon dermatosis with characteristic clinicopathological features. Extrafacial isolated GF is extremely rare. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is a treatment option for GF to minimize the risk of scarring. We report a case of a 78-year-old male with an extensive GF of the scalp successfully treated with pulsed dye laser (PDL).

Scar prevention using Laser-Assisted Skin Healing (LASH) in plastic surgery.

BACKGROUND: The use of lasers has been proposed for scar revision. A recent pilot clinical study demonstrated that lasers could also be used immediately after surgery to reduce the appearance of scars. The LASH (Laser-Assisted Skin Healing) technique induces a temperature elevation in the skin which modifies the wound-healing process. We report a prospective comparative clinical trial aimed at evaluating an 810-nm diode-laser system to accelerate and improve the healing process in surgical scars immediately after skin closure. METHODS: Twenty-nine women and 1 man (mean age = 41.4 years; Fitzp

Treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids with a fractional CO2 laser: a personal experience.

Keloids and hypertrophic scars are both abnormal wound responses in predisposed individuals but they differ in that keloids extend beyond the original wound and almost never regress, while hypertrophic scars remain within the original wound and tend to regress. How keloids grow is not totally clear because there is no animal model; in fact, keloids affect only humans. Different injuries can result in keloids, including burns, surgery, ear piercing, lacerations, abrasions, tattooing, vaccinations, injections, insect bites and any process causing skin inflammation (chicken pox, acne, folliculiti

Treatment of perioral rhytids.

Many techniques exist for treating rhytids in the perioral region. Injectable fillers, Botox, implants, lip lifts, and lip advancements all produce lasting results. Resurfacing procedures can also be used to rejuvenate this area. This article discusses the use of chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser resurfacing, alone or in combination, as methods to reduce fine and vertical rhytids of the upper and lower lips and superficial scarring in the perioral region. The authors emphasize that the best outcomes are often achieved using a combination of these modalities tailored to each patient's nee

Vascular lasers and IPLS: guidelines for care from the European Society for Laser Dermatology (ESLD).

Dermatology and dermatologic surgery have rapidly evolved during the last two decades thanks to the numerous technological and scientific acquisitions focused on improved precision in the diagnosis and treatment of skin alterations. Given the proliferation of new devices for the treatment of vascular lesions, we have considerably changed our treatment approach. Lasers and non-coherent intense pulse light sources (IPLS) are based on the principle of selective photothermolysis and can be used for the treatment of many vascular skin lesions. A variety of lasers has recently been developed for the

Prevention of third molar tooth development in neonate rat with a long pulse diode laser.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Third molars (wisdom teeth) in humans have limited functional value and cause a high frequency of morbidity. A window of opportunity exists to stop their development. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether a long pulse diode laser can selectively prevent third molar development in a rat animal model. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study calculated theoretical diode laser parameters and irradiated 2- to 4-day-old rat pups in the posterior aspects of the oral cavity near the time of tooth bud initiation. Rats were sacrificed at 35-50 days and examin

Treatment of rosacea with intense pulsed light.

Rosacea is a chronic disease that affects millions of men and women. Topical and oral antibiotics are effective, yet often leave individuals with treatment plateau associated erythema and persistent flushing. We investigated the use of intense pulsed light for treatment of the redness, flushing, and breakouts associated with rosacea. Thirty-two consecutive patients of Fitzpatrick skin types I-III underwent 1 to 7 treatments with intense pulsed light. Patients were assessed clinically and photographically. In addition, patients completed a detailed questionnaire regarding their response to trea

Histopathological examination of the effects of two different laser types on the osteochondral defect created in the rabbit temporomandibular joint.

The objective of this research was to evaluate the comparative efficacy of a novel dual-wavelength low-energy laser versus a traditional single-wavelength system on the repair of experimental osteochondral defects in the rabbit temporomandibular joint. Twenty-two adult male New Zealand White rabbits were utilized for this investigation. An osteochondral defect was created in the temporomandibular joint of the experimental group rabbits using a handpiece and a drill. Rabbits in the control group did not receive any regenerative treatment. Experimental animals in Group 1 (Epic10 laser) were trea

The impact of physical adjunctive interventions on outcomes of clear aligner treatment: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials.

INTRODUCTION: Physical adjunctive interventions (PAIs), including vibration devices and low-level laser therapy, are promoted to accelerate tooth movement, improve aligner tracking, and reduce discomfort in clear aligner treatment (CAT), but randomized evidence remains inconsistent. This systematic review aimed to assess whether PAIs improve CAT outcomes in terms of objective tooth-movement metrics, aligner tracking, overall treatment efficiency, and patient-centered outcomes, and to appraise the risk of bias and the certainty of the evidence at the outcome level. METHODS: Comprehensive elect

Reversal of allodynia and enhanced tendon repair in rats via 660 and 808 nm photobiomodulation.

Our study aimed to explore the potential of Photobiomodulation (PBM) as a treatment for Tendinopathy (TP), a chronic condition characterized by tendon degeneration, inflammation, and pain, for which current treatment options often yield unsatisfactory outcomes. PBM, utilizing low-level laser, has shown promise in reducing inflammatory markers, stimulating cell proliferation, and alleviating pain, thus presenting itself as a promising alternative therapy for TP. Using an experimental rat model of tendinopathy, male Wistar rats weighing 250-370 g were induced with TP through the injection of typ
