RATIONALE: Dentinogenic ghost cell tumors (DGCTs) are rare odontogenic neoplasms constituting the solid variant of calcifying odontogenic cysts. Predominantly observed in adults, DGCTs are exceptionally rare in pediatric patients. This case report aims to contribute to the limited literature by presenting the clinical, radiographic, and histopathological findings of a pediatric patient with a DGCT and emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 14-year-old male presented with facial asymmetry in the left mandible.
DIAGNOSES: Diagnostic imaging revealed a multilocular r

A 41-year-old woman presented with a facial asymmetry in the mental region and a painful, well-circumscribed, tender mass in the right lower buccal vestibule, associated with extensive ill-defined bone rarefaction with subtle cortical bone resorption. Microscopically, a proliferation of bland spindle cells interspersed with collagen fibers and prominent staghorn-like blood vessels was observed. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed strong positivity for CD34, Bcl-2, CD99, and STAT-6, confirming the diagnosis of Solitary Fibrous Tumor (SFT). Conservative surgical enucleation was performed, and

Ameloblastic carcinoma (AC) is a rare odontogenic malignant epithelial neoplasm of maxillofacial skeleton with a distinct predisposition of the mandible. It can occur in a wide range of age groups, with a sex predilection in males. It can arise either as a de novo lesion or from preexisting ameloblastoma. AC has a high propensity for local recurrence as well as distant metastasis (chiefly lungs), thus requiring an aggressive surgical approach and a strict surveillance. Owing to the rarity of publications describing AC, little is known about this entity in pediatric patients. We report a case o

Tumor induced osteomalacia (TIO) is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome associated with tumors secreting fibroblast growth factor 23, which induces osteomalacia. Microscopically, these tumors most commonly show benign phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors. We report the first case of phosphaturic ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) manifesting as osteomalacia. Our index patient was a 33-year-old male who was diagnosed with TIO and AFO in the mandible was identified as the cause. Our case is unique as AFO is considered as a hamartoma. To the best of our knowledge, there is no hamartoma reported till date ca

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the influences of postoperative oral function in patients with median or paramedian mandibulotomy during the radical resection of tongue carcinoma and to provide evidence for the choice of osteotomy location for mandibulotomy.
METHODS: The clinical data of 126 patients who underwent combined radical neck dissection with mandibulectomy and glossectomy followed by simultaneous reconstruction were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups according to the position of mandibulotomy: median mandibulotomy group (median group, n=60) an

This case report presents a solid variant of keratocystic odontogenic tumour (KCOT), a benign uni- or multicystic intraosseous tumour of odontogenic origin, with a characteristic lining of parakeratinized stratified squamous epithelium and potential inflammatory infiltrate. A 52-year old female patient discovered occasionally, in an orthopantomography done for other reasons, the presence of a radiolucent lesion. A 2-3 cm wide lesion with well-demarcated margins was present in the premolar region of the left hemimandible. Under local anesthesia a biopsy was done and the diagnosis of odontogenic

A rare case with osteochondroma located near the condylar process of the mandible is described. Surgical treatment was carried out (removal of the formation through the periauricular approach). Orthopedic treatment was carried out during the postoperative period. The proportions of the facial skull, occlusion, and articulation were completely restored.

Glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) is an extremely rare lesion occurring in the jawbones. Sialo-odontogenic cyst was first described as a multicystic lesion resembling a botryoid odontogenic cyst (BOC) or a central mucoepidermoid carcinoma by Padayachee in 1987. In 1988, Gardner used the term "glandular odontogenic cyst" and considered it as a histologic variant of BOC. Most authors agreed that GOC was odontogenic because of the concurrent ball-like epithelial structure, ameloblastoma, squamous odontogenic tumor-like proliferation in its wall, or hyaline bodies in the epithelium lining. Recently

The value of the scapular crest pedicle bone graft has been clearly established by clinical cases over the ten last years. The crest is compared to cortico-diaphyseal bone because of its properties, which are different from those of other parts of the scapula. The centromedullary space is vascularized by its own vascular system which penetrates the bone at the site of emergence of the cutaneous vessels of the scapular flap. The inferior portion is covered, in children by a voluminous apophysis which remains cartilaginous for a long time. Harvesting difficulties due to vascular and muscular cha

A 3-year-old Holstein bull was examined because of a mass involving the cranial portion of the right hemimandible and the oral cavity. The mass had been observed 2 weeks earlier. The bull had lost weight throughout the 45 days before admission, and was anorectic at the time of admission. An aneurysmal bone cyst of the mandible was diagnosed.
