Maxillofacial trauma in children.

Pediatric trauma involving the bones of the face is associated with severe injury and disability. Although much is known about the epidemiology of facial fractures in adults, little is known about injury patterns and outcomes in children. The most common facial fractures were mandible, nasal and maxillary/zygoma. The most common mechanisms of injury are motor vehicle collisions, violence and falls. These fracture patterns and mechanisms of injury varies with age. Cranial and central facial injuries are more common among toddlers and infants, and mandible injuries are more common among adolesce

Patient Triage, First Aid Care, and Management of Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma.

Maxillofacial trauma is a common presentation in veterinary medical practice. Accurate assessment, diagnostics, pain management, and finally repair are tenants to treatment. In addition to typical tenants for fracture repair, the restoration of occlusion and return to function (eating, drinking, grooming) are unique to trauma management in these patients. Options for repair include conservative management (tape muzzles), noninvasive repair techniques (interdental wiring and composite splinting), and invasive repair techniques (interfragmentary wiring and plate and screw fixation).

[Patient treated with sub-mental intubation for maxillofacial trauma].

Maxillo-facial traumas are frequent and most often occur in young patients. Naso-tracheal or orotracheal intubation may be contraindicated in case of combined occlusal fracture and nasal or ethmoido-nasal fracture. This study was carried out a clinical case of a patient treated at the Lille University Hospital for a maxillofacial trauma associating fracture of nose and maxilla. The purpose was to assess the reliability of submental intubation as an alternative to tracheotomy. Submental intubation is a reliable single and safe technique allowing an one-stage surgical treatment in case of comple
